subwoofers
in all honesty, I think you should reconsider my suggestion for the SoundSplinter rl-p. here's why i think you should:
1. loudness: guy with a rl-p15, 2.0cu ft sealed box, 300wrms hit 137dB on a termlab (measured from passenger seat). IMO that is damn good for 300w.
2. quality: very musical sub, tight/punchy, and hits low notes with precision.
3. if you care about trunk space, i got mine in a <1.0 cu ft (polyfilled) with 768wrms running and the sound is beautiful.
3. google 'sound splinter rl-p12' and I guarantee that you'll find very very few, if any, negative comments of any kind. here's a detailed review by someone who knows his audio.
My other choices, when buying this sub, were IDMAX12", eD 13Ov.2, and Diamond D9 (to give you an idea of what "league" this sub is in)
I find L5s/L7s to be rather imprecise, when being subjected to more complex basslines. JL w6v2's are pretty sweet subs, but wayy too much money. I stay away from RF products, also way overpriced and I haven't really seen anything truly innovative created by them in the past couple of years.
One last thing. Here's a vid of soundsplinter's flagship sub, the rl-s.
If that video of the rl-s and the review of the rl-p don't convince you of the fact that they know how to make good drivers, I will stop annoying you.
PS I don't work for soundsplinter in any way, but am merely trying to spread the word about an awesome company, that builds awesome subs.

I like JL and would go with that cause its me and I like brands i know
I have 2 Alpine Type-S but they don't come close to comparing to w6s but maybe a Type-X? I guess Alpine isn't a high end sub

I'm running 2, almost 2 year old, Type-S through a 600 watt 2 channel alpine amp and it's enough to shake the roof big time with the equalizer on flat....I'm proud of it for less than $800(new and installed).

12w6v2-d4 mated with a JL 500/1 not overpowering but gives you but when needed, still solid to listen to and very clean. Nothing else need be said, although this is the slightly more expensive route if you want to show and still be able to hear in a few years, this is my recommendation.
