Arrow Amp mount on side of trunk?

ok, I tried searching for this in the gallery but didn't get many results. I'd like to see some pictures of amps that are mounted on the side of the trunk (the concave area right behind the taillights) I remember reading about this before but can't find the post. Anyways I remember it involves using MDF to make some kind of box to fit into that area and then mounting the amp on the side of it.

I have no knowledge with customization so I'd appreciate some instructions. What dimension of the MDF is needed in order for it to sit securely with an amp on it? I don't have a visual image of what it would look like

Pictures or some instructions would help, thanks!

(p.s. I have crossed out the idea of mounting it on the sub box, and anywhere on the floor of the trunk is out b/c I use the trunk a lot for skates and snowboards..etc. Might consider mounting it to back of seat if this plan doesn't go)

best advice i can give you is go to your trunk with lots of carboard, tape, and some kind of cutting device. Start cutting a general shape of what you would like and then play around till you can get it mounted securely.

Or if your feeling adventerous you can pull a mold of the side wall using fiberglass and then make an OEM looking mount for your amplifier

Take the cardboard as greenloch suggested. Cut it into as many 1 inch wide strips as you can. Staple them together to get your general shape. From there, transfer it to MDF and cut it out. Mount it in there. Another option would be to cut a board that fits flush with the front of the wheel well and extends to the rear of the car to the tail light area. Then you have a panel that's out from the tail light (providing you access should you have to change a bulb, etc). Another option would be to glass a piece in there by taping everything off and adding a release agent. I'd recommend doing this with the carpet out. From there you can glass a few layers and fleece it then add your finish (carpet paint, whatever).

hey guys thanks for the suggestions.

Diskreet, thanks for the picture that's exactly how I would like it to be! on the side and out of the way... saw your pictures in your gallery too. One question tho, how did you mount the board onto the car? Did you put anything between the car and the board?

In my car (sedan) there is a piece of metal coming out directly behind the top of the board. Take off the carpeting on that side and look at the metal. Its about 4-6 inches from the outside edge of the trunk. I drilled into the metal a roughly 3 mm hole after lining the board up against it, and then i took a BIG 1 1/2" wood screw and forced it in with a cordless drill. just be careful, having a large screw tapping into a 3/4" piece of wood then a piece of metal gets VERY hot! and I burned myself with it. Read my DIY and just take what you need. There are alot of fine details you will get from just reading it.
Good luck! PM me with any further questions so i can answer fast.
