Help with troubleshooting a headunit problem
Help with troubleshooting a headunit problem
Okay, this weekend I installed a Pioneer DEH-P4600MP deck in my 2004 Civic. I also put in a Kicker amp and two 10's.
Everything was working PERFECT for about 20 minutes, and now the damn deck is fuggin possesed!!!
The deck is constantly changing functions, turning on and off, attenuation on and off, to CD, to Tuner, to fade etc. etc... And it doesn't change at a constant interval either, it will change functions 3 times in 4 seconds, then stay on that function for 3-5 seconds, change again, stay there, change again...it is non stop!!! Only thing I can do to stop it is turn the damn car off, and obviously that is not a good fix...hehe.
I have double and triple checked all wires in back of the deck and everything is correct and taped up and done right..I even disconnected the amp thinking somehow that was the problem, but nope..
Soooo....any of you gurus out there have any ideas/suggestions??? Anyone even seen anything like this before, cuz I know I haven't. I'm no audio god, but I have installed quite a few decks and never seen ANYTHING like this!!!
Thanks in advance!!

That's certainly a new one... I don't have much experience with Pioneer but it sounds like it could be a faulty deck. If you have replacement warranty on it, that would probably be where I would start.

Make sure the buttons have a click of sorts and the proper feel when pushed (possible stuck button(s))
They have an exchange program for warranty so you will get a repaired unit as exchange. If the unit is new enough try to get a NEW one instead.

I've had a lot of experience with Pioneer decks, and I agree with MegaHurtz and CraigW: check for stuck buttons, etc. first -- if that doesn't pan out, it's likely the deck is faulty.
Pioneer is a good brand, not top-of-the-line, but I've always been very happy with their products; even the best company will crank out a lemon every now and then...
