it could possibly. just make sure that the top of the floor doesnt go above the trunk wall....its hard to explain what im trying to say but...you know the molding where the trunk hatch is? well you dont want the top of your trunk going above that ... but GOOD luck i have faith in ya! lol no really i think it is do-able i just wanted to do mine so it sat into the recess. but im sure you could do it, with a little bit of customizing. good luck! let me know how it goes and if you need help give me an email

Puts me sub to shame
i'm gonna work on somethiing to replace the stock cardboardish thing, probably 3/8" or 1/2" particle board or something thin.
I have a question, when i put my sub facing the back, it sound better, as it should, but with yout setup and the way mine is, it faces upward and it doesn't sound as good. is there a way to remedy this? Or, do you just live with the lower output (i know, you probably want less output with your bigger subs, but with my small 8", it makes a difference) thanks

ok first for ed. why did u leave a pic of your deck??? is that the right pic you meant to leave? figured it would be a pick of your sub.... and trevor. why leave the spare in? if you build stuff on top your not gonna be able to just take out your box and amps and wiring real quick and grab the spare.. it'll be stuck down there. why not just go with the same set-up he has and just take the spare and set it off to the side on top. thats what i do with mine and if i want to show it off just pick up the spare and set it on the floor and there's your system. when your driving it doesn't matter where your spare is at cause nobody is gonna see your trunk unless you got that new clear trunk lid
Yeah, i had the wrong picture selected It's right now, i just took those, i'm workign on makign it better, and mounting the amp better.

-Ed
Yeah, that's what i do now, but i want to try keep the under the floorness. i might try a ported design, hopefully that will make up for a little bump, i don't think it'll fit u nder there then haha, oh well. Basically, i just really want yto keep my spare in there.

through a party i'm now a "MEMBER" oh yeah !!! anyway yeah well your 8 can only displace so much air so just keep trying but don't sit in anyone else's car cause there's will have you runnin to the store for some 12's or 15's.

sorry that it took me so long to respond..."women..." you know how it is lol. gotta have full attention at all times. but lemme do my best
Ed- your setup is fine the way you have it. do you have your sub enclosed? or is just attached to the floor? if you dont have it enclosed, try building a box with the correct dimensions which you can find at soundillusions.net just look at building sub enclosures. make sure that the enclosure is air tight, and fill it with some sort of soft material...i would suggest cotton, or pillow stuffing. this is recommended by all the top "audio guys" so im not crazy. this helps to make the bass sound heartier etc etc. even in crutchfields DIY section they suggest this. that might make your bass hit a little "deepier". all i ccan say is..keep trying new things. sometimes by playing around with your amp settings, and HU settings you can tweak the He!! outta your subs. i know with my pioneer HU the P6300 you can do just about anything. if you have already done everything ive suggested, you might (sorry to say) just need to rebuild and start from scratch...or do a lil saving
and pick up 2 12"s or even 1 from best buy...i know a lot of people dont like to shop there, but they are reasonable and the service aint too bad. just dont buy lightning audio. Rockford Fosgate makes great subs for their competition....if you compare them to subs in that price range...69-80$ per sub. and about 50-70$ for 10's. after that, you may need an amp upgrade, maybe not. If any of this helps than good, if not, then im sorry that i wasted your time! LOL
Ben- about his 8 and the placement, i agree. with 1 8" dont expect too much punch. maybe in a Truck, but not in our cars. That punch has gotta make it alllll the way from the rear to your ears up in the drivers seat. and sound good. One 8" doesnt have much potential to push. No offense to you Ed, even if you arent a novice and you know what your doing which im sure you do. All im saying is, for not TOO much you can upgrade to some 12"s, and you wont be disapointed. The listening difference will be an A++.
If you want personal opinion, which most people dont ..... Well heres mine!
Subs....For the sorta average guy that wants great sound..... Cerwin Vega HED 12"s
H.U.- ........PIONEER!!!!! sorry but you cant beat pioneer when it comes to H.U.'s, ive seen the competition, ive owned the competition, ive RETURNED the competition
Amps... - I would recommend Phoenix gold, Rockford Fosgate, and maybe Alpine...High End only. I know most people will tell you
when it comes to Xplod...but hey for 170$ my 760w Max power amp pushes pretty nice...so im not gonna complain, but i would recommend Fosgate first choice.
Hope this helps!

Oh, yeah, o for got to say, the sub is enclosed in a MDF box that fits between the spare and teh back of the trunk. I know, my amp should be able to push some lower powered 12s, but the only thign holding my back is that i like how i've used up zero trunk space. the sub isn't actually attached to that board. I'm thinking that there's 2 things i can do.
1) I might try a ported fiberglass enclosure of the current sub to try squeeze out as much space as i can from under the trunk.
2) just go out and buy a pair of 10s or 12s and leave the big honkign bok above the trunk bed.
I'd do your setup, except that i want to leave my spare in teh same place.
also, my amp is only good up to 150 watts RMS with 2 of teh 4 channels bridged @ 4 ohms. What sub do you reccomend that is pretty cheap, i'm not really lookign to spend that much. i have a ton of MDF ready for the box. Thanks

ive been where you aer. and i dont like spending money either lol. but i always want quality, not quantity. here are my suggestions, take or leave any of them
I'd pick up..... 2 10" Rockford Fosgate subs....my buddy has 2 in his Dodge Stealth, and they hit hard. harder than you would think. just cuz a sub is 12" doesnt mean it hits harder than a 10"...just dnot be deceived. Crutchfield wants 69.95$ for the Punch RFZ2410 subs. Thats 130$, and you wont be disapointed. If you can have someone bridge your amp, and see how it sounds do that. If you arent satisfied, sell that mu-puppy on Ebay, get your 30-50 bucks whatever you get and chuck out another 199$ for a Fosgate 2 channel Amp. That is the best solution i can give you, for a SEMI reasonable price. I know that its a bi*ch because of the spare tire...but ASK around, do a search, and you will find that relocating that sucker to the under side of your car isnt too difficult! im sure you can find a DIY from a member on this site, and Derek (2k1civic.com) has done it...and ive even heard such things as.....it helps the handling, adds a better center of gravity, etc etc. But hey like i said, this is your choice, and every civic owner has his /her own opinion. So try new things, and dont be afraid to push the envelope..you only live once..live it up!!
Oh and by the way, here's more info on those Subs i recommended Rockford Fosgate Punch RFZ2410

I think for now, i will get one 10" and run it off teh current amp, it's a 4 channel and i'm bridging the rear for teh sub and the other 2 channels for the front speakers.
I was looking at the Cervin-Vegas you mentioned above, 10" HEDs SVCs. How do you think that is? Crutchfield has them listed at 35-150W RMS power range, which is right up my alley. Thsnk

Well my friend, you hit it right on the spot. Of course i recommend CV HED's!!!!!! LOL Thats what im pushin and they push GREAT!!

Sounds good, but if your going to have to take that spare out, which i dunno if youy are or not i'd pick up 2 and bridge them . you could still push 2 components and you dont need to push the fronts unless your HU cant push 22w RMS. I would push them with an amp if they arent making atleat 19w RMS.
I have a cough, sony HU now ( i know, sony isn that good, i'm savign up for a better Hu, but it works fine for me now) that puts out abou 22 watts rms. I think that i will go with one HED first and see how that goes, if it makes me happy enough, i'll pick up another and get a better 2 channel amp for them Thanks

Rockford makes Lightning -_-
we have some lightnings running a round here..
usual set up is 2 bolts(100rms, 200max) pushing by a 400watt amp, they don't ever come back
next level setup, s600.2, and 2 strike svc
next level, s800.2 and 2 strike dvc
they sound mad loud! people thinkt hey have sometimes 4 15"s in their car
and not a single lightning speaker has come back yet... on the other hand.. i think my rear right entry level rockford 6x9 is blown(360 watt rf amp rated at 552watt is going into my interior, fanatic x up front and entry in the back) ... gotta get some new ones.. i guess fanatic x 6x9...

Yeah, it is like sounddomains. But i will be proud to say that i had this idea and a final product before sounddomain even went to the drawing board
But it all depends on the person. You can be semi lazy, or just want a perfect job cuz you have no woodworkign skills at all, and pay the 180$ bucks...or you could just do some research, get the numbers, and do it yourself for roughly 25$-30$ . Mine only cost me 19.77$ plus tax because i found everything i needed around the house
About adding another amp to spice it up... yup though about that. i ordered a sony xplod 4 channel
amp to power my components. im going to mount the amps on posts so that they sit about my subs...really hard to explain with just words but when i get the pics it will look great!

now try not to confuse yourself..and if you think this idea is stupid or if you onloy have negative remarks dont waste your time find a different feed. this is my new plans and ideas for the second part of my DIY custom sub box enclosure. enjoy!
by the way.....the quality is horrible..i had to compress it to fit on ehre ...... anyways the dimensions are as follows
the secnod floor will be 2.7 inches higher
the covering for teh second floor will be black vinyl
and those little squares are removable panels that reveal the amps.

You did a great job with the subs.
I have a question about your second phase of the project.
Can you cover the amps without them overheating?
Once again, Great job looking forward to seeing pics of the next phase.

Im gonna do the same thing that 2k2civicballer is doing with the subs under the false floor. I'm gonna put some fans under there for the amps and such so when it does get hot, they will automatically kick in...heat controlled fans hehe!

ThrashN - yes , they will stay cool..but it is important to keep the fact that they could over heat. i like WhosYoDadday85's idea. im not sure where to purchase those fans, but i like the idea. My amps barely get hot, and theyre only pushin 150 x 2 RMS. But everything sounds great. If i have problems with heat, i will have to isntall a fan system . Probably only an extra 30$ total, and a half hour job =)
thanks for teh comments. im hooking up my second amp tonight that will be powering my 6 x 9's. theyre max power is 220w, but ill only be pushing 150 rms.....so they should sound perfecto
