CUSTOM SUB BOX COMPLETE! PICS HERE!
I'm building my box right now. My bottom is fiberglass though. I fiberglassed almost the whole floor, brought it up to the upper box area. I will have about a 3" false floor, so I can do some neon work, flush mount the amp. and sink in the Nos bottle

A friend of mine at Tweeter Audio and Video in San Diego will make a custom fiberglass box for 2 12's, an amp rack, and a false floor (where they raise the floor about 3 inches to make everything flush), and neon backlighting for between $400-$600.... (not a discounted price)

grant it fiberglass would look sweet, this project consists of about 30$, and you can do it alone or with a friend. its fun, and it looks awesome. ive had many people compliment me, so unless your a high roller, go ahead and spend that 400$. but for now ill stick with what i got
ok i don't understand why you would want to kill all your trunk space for a setup like that??? plus if you make your cuts perfect you don't need that much caulk. its not butter. you should use polyurethane caulk not bath/kitchen. My box holds a 15 in a 2.5 inclosure with room in the trunk for other stuff. the box is made of 3/4 MDF. then caulked. then painted inside and out 4 coats of polyurethane to completely seal. then sprayed undercariage paint inside box. its the same as spray dynamat but only 4 dollars. both are rubber based for sound deadening. the floor is also a piece of 3/4 mdf. the amps are under where the spare went and the spare now sits to the side on top but can be taken right out 4 show. the spkr sits lower than the floor so it has a small cut out for excursion. this was so the box could be shorter to let waves pass and not get trapped in the trunk and cancel out. it hits a 143 with the doors shut with a small 600 watt amp. so it sounds good, looks good, and keeps the trunk usable.

theres nothign wrong with yoru setup. but every DIY is personal. i persnoally love my trunk, and my friends do too...thats why theyre paying me and my team to do their trunks. besides, ive got more room in my trunk than you. not to critisize. i have grills over my subs now, so i can lay anything on top...skis, my backpack.....so i dont see the need to nit pick at my trunk! thank you for your opinion, not everyone can agree with me...im no dumbass. ...WOW 5pages and going! thanks guys =)
maybe so but you can't just put a grill on a spkr. and then lay stuff on it and think its still usable. sub is designed to move air and that can't happen with stuff on top of it. and your amp needs air too so it doesn't get hot so you can't put anything on it. so that cuts your usable space down to just the left side of the trunk.
Damn dude, don't be such an a$$. I love his trunk, I would've done the same thing but I decided I wanted something a little different. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean you need to come in here and rip him. Especially from a noob.

im not piling stuff on top of it ... al im saying is i have a full trunk left over. his has half of a trunk...i wasnt trying to criticize take it easy. if you look at my picture, and look at his picture...there is a clear difference in trunk space. im sorry if i offended anyone in this process, im only trying to help here. thanks again everyone for yoru comments and support
ok your saying you have a full trunk.. but then your saying your not gonna put anything in it???? so yes your right your trunk has more air space. but not usable space. it just seems misleading to other people to do your same set-up and then realize later they will blow a speaker stacking stuff on them. but yes for show it does look pretty cool. are you doing anything diff. with the amp or is that its home?? have you meter'd it?? how hard does a set-up like that hit??

yeah. i wasnt badgering you personally or your setup. and yes it hits really hard now because of the way my subs are aimed. i know the preffered angle is different, but i think it sounds perfect. im going to be raising the floor moor, so that the amp and subs are only visible through plexiglass. like a bandpass setup (not literally but for imagery) but thats another project. not too hard, probably about a 1.5hr project. ill start next week!

there will be a 7 inch gap between top of subs and plexi glass. plenty of room to move the air. same sort of idea a bandpass has. the air will move up and out through the sides. we built the exact same model on my friends 4dr sedan. i wouldnt be doing it unless i KNEW it worked. thats why i took the extra time to make all measurements exact
well then you won't need grills and you can use your trunk but where is the air going to vent out if you cover in plexi?? did you put a meter on it?? mine was at 143, nothin to write home about but not bad for 1 sub and that was with a hx2 not the power i just put in but i think the power would rather be in a sealed box and it needs alot more juice. just need to find a good 1 ohm amp cause the dang thing is dual 2 ohm unlike the hx2. make sure you get some thick plexi... ask for polycarbonite its stronger. so you don't get flex. i did a box with poly on both sides with 4 15's in all seperate chambers and i used 1/2 inch and it was fine. . that was in a suv though. i'd like to see 4 15's in a civic though rumble ........... i still have decent space in the back cause the spare sits back there so whatever the width of that is i have all the way accross
so it holds alot of stuff. the pic is my buddies explorer i di last summer.

you would have to seal the top half and do your homework on boxes if you wanted to port the top, your idea sounds fine with the gap on the sides esp. if you've seen it work before.

well yes and no. under the top of the new floor, is cotton. the cotton is between the floor and the REAL floor to keep it from vibrating, rattling, etc etc. but it pretty much sits flush yes! for more diagrams check out pictures from earlier in the thread
