Alpine MRP-F240... enough power?
Considering buying this amp.. it is rated as 40 wrms X 4. It this enough power, 40 seems rather piddly... I am going ot run Alpine Type R Components (6.5 inch). Can someone put this power output into perspective for me... just seems a little low to me unless the Alpine is underrated.
Thanks,
Amer

for what you are doing with it its not enough power. this amp is awesome with type s speakers but type r's need more power an mrpt220 for just the components and run the rears off the deck or buy 2 mrpt220s. but if you got the money or can find a good deal just buy the mrvf340 or the mrvf345 http://www.alpine-usa.com/
just try to match the rms output of the amp to the rms of the speakers.
i havent used the jbl but have heard good things about it for the money.
I have installed the alpine and it does just fine.

If your amp provided 70%-100% of the speaker output would it be considered powered adequately? <70% underpowered, and >100% overpowered, am I correct on these general guidelines. Just to give me an idea, at full output how much do you think our stock system put out...8-10 watts rms? I am just trying to picture what 60 watts would sound like cuz i am just having trouble deciding if 40 rms X 4 is good enough or will i want to change it like a year later.

40w will sound great. The stock system is almost nothing, like 5w maybe higher. Aftermarket decks range around 15w usually, and remember you'll be doubling that at least with an amp.

Yes but with 40w on Type Rs only are only giving 40/70 = 57% at the max. If I use something like 75 X 4 for an amp, then at least at regular listening volumes the speaker will be adequately powered.

Hence, constantly over or underpowering your speakers will cause them to blow, better keep them matched, or over power them slightly but turn the gains down? ie Avionixx 440.4 amp put out 85 X 4 rms, this I think would bea good match for the type Rs, I am prolly going to go with this amp.
