someone with amped perfects said they were way too loud. Even the reference is pretty decent without distorting. Just pair with a small amp.

I don't want to spend over $200 for one pair of speakers. you guys must be high rollers to even consider a pair of $2000 speaker! Anyways, the Perfects are, from what i've read, dificult to install due to the large magnet size, but sound great when amped. I will be purchasing Infinity references (6.5" 6010Cs) which I know sound great, much like was mentioned earlier. they are a great buy at ~$125 off of ebay, but be sure to choose a reputable buyer. As for the Jl's, I really don't know, never hear anything from their speakers, only subs, which, buy the way I also hear are top of the line.

IMO, there is no best speaker out there. There are several factors when going about buying speakers, the main being the consumer. The real question is what's best for you? What do you like? Your music tastes, the budget you have, do you want something you can drop in out of the box, or do you mind doing modifications for tehm to fit, etc, etc, etc. The install plays a vital role in how well your speakers will perform, and whether they accomplish what it is you want them to accomplish. Some people like a very bright high end, some like great midbass response with a not so bright high. I prefer to buy individual components and build a mutt system to better accomplish what it is that I want my speakers to accomplish. That means I might have 2 or 3 different brands within an individual set of components, I might have an image dynamics tweeter, an adire midbass, and a different brand crossover, or another brand's upper midbass woofer for those 3-way sets. It's all subjective. There really is no best speaker rather a best for the person that's going to have to listen to them on a day to day basis. If there were, why doesn't every single competitor run the exact same thing in the same box installed in the same location. But, that's just my opinion.

In fact, they are quite cheap, yet they still sound great becuase the reciever, or in the case of car audio (I'm assuming) the headunit, does a LOT of audio processing which makes it sound so good. So what I'm trying to say is that I'm not so sure that the speakers alone (if you could get them) would sound so hot without a Bose reviever hooked up to them.
Infinty makes "high end" production car speakers systems too. They sound good but are crap compared to the stuff they sell for aftermarket

Yes, all Bose systems are made for the specific cars. I demo'd a Bose Lifestyle at a Hi Fi store couple months ago in Toronto. The processing used was cool, and the sound wasn't bad at all. But for the money, I'll look elsewhere.
Same thing for some of there car systems. My uncle just bought a Porsche Ceyanne (sp?) and it has some ridicously over-speakered Bose system, 20 speakers or some crap like that. Now, again, it sounds fine, but 20 speakers? My uncle listened to my system, a set of components in kick panels and a sealed subwoofer, thats all. He claims my system sounds tons better than the Bose.
I hate tons of processing in my sound, couple speakers, maybe a sub, a decent source and amp and I am all set, I don't need thousands of dollars of processing in the way.
I don't think Bose products are crap, they are just too gimmicky in my opinion.

i agree with popcornplaya it all has to do with taste of music and budget but there are certain brands that are more reliable thatn others, boston acoustic makes good speakers for mids and highs, solorbaric are good subs but it depends on taste.
id say memphis audio, and pioneer are also 2 competitors out there for interior speakers.
btw jl audio interior speakers blow they couldn't handle the power coming from my amp and would always distort and cut off on me but now with my memphis audio speakers sound and life is good. lol
