installing hu please help
So i got my dash apart cleanly put the hu in and started connecting the wires (i bought the kit) and after i connected all the power wires and ghetto wrapped them with electric tape i re hooked up the battery and turned the car on and the hu wouldn't turn on, started getting dark so we pulled my car in the garage and while we were during that we, like idiots, didn't take care of the wires, big spark and i blew the fuse.
But, why wouldn't the hu turn on before i blew the fuse?? what am i doing wrong, im kinda new to this stuff.

First off, you dont want to ghetto wrap those wires. You dont want the tape weaking, and than falling off, and than causing more problems. Get some decent connectors and to that.
Secondly with the fuse, I had the same thing happen to mine. Go under the hood, and find that fuse panel, its over by the passenger side by the stock intake tube-hose thingy. Take the tpp off and start going thorugh the fuses, Pull them one by one and make sure the are all ok. One of the red ones I had went out, and that fixed it. If none of those are bad, go under the dash and look at those fuses too.

yeah, we're going to shrink tube the connections now we were just doing that to test out the connections to see if the deck worked.
I found one busted fuse under the dash but thats a good idea to check all of them. IM gonna just pick up extras from the local hardware/auto zone.
what does the "ignition switch" wire hook to on my wiring harness? I have one extra wire coming from my car to the wiring harness, i think its that one.

Which Hu are you hooking up... You need to hook up the ignition wire to let your HU know to actually turn on when the car is on.. Otherwise it has power and all..but no signal to turn on.

its a blaupunkt ... well after 2 hours of being pissed off and staring at wires and manuals i realized that when it says "blue" it means orange/white which is the ignition switch.
And does dimmer = illumination. and why do i have 13 wires on the wire harness and only 12 on the harness that came with the deck. I was always good with computers but cars are so much more difficult. Thanks for any help.

When I did my Kenwood deck I know that I had a couple of wires i didnt connect. The harness was all color coded, so it was really easy. Red to red, Black to black, etc... The Kenwood had some extra stuff. Mine dims, and works witht he dimmer, so you might just have to leave the wire.
