building a custom trunk for your 7th gen civic..help??

Hey everyone. I currently have a bandpass box that fits 2 12"in subs. It takes up like 40% of my trunk. I want to build a custom trunk to fit where the spare tire is. IF you want an idea of what im talking about, check out this pic http://www.7thgencivic.com/members_rides/members/2k1Civic_Com/image2.jpg and this one http://www.7thgencivic.com/members_rides/members/2k1Civic_Com/image7.jpg . If you have any suggestions let me know . I have the MDF board and ive started the construction, i will take pics and post them tonight.

DON'T ask derek how he did it, he didn't. everything that he has done to his car was done by his installer, and derek won't answer questions on it at his installer's request. and good luck, let us know how it goes.

for those who don't know, derek is one of the founding fathers of the site, his car is 2k1civic.com

Actually, thats what I'm in the process of doing currently, building a custom sub enclosure for my pair of IDQ 12's. Gone through four 2' X 4' sheets of 3/4 MDF so far, making the amp mounting plate(in the spare tire well), the "face" of the box, where it forward fires each sub into the cabin, and the base plate for the trunk(covers the spare tire well). Now I have to finish the backplane, to hide the rear of the box when you look in from the trunk, and upholster/sound deaden it all.

Then, as soon as I get some time off work, I have 200sq ft of RAAM audio mat(like dynamat extreme) that will cover everything possible in the cabin. Put an extra layer of 1/2" butylene foam along the floor of the cabin. Replace HU, speakers, wire everything up(amps/cap, signal lines), replace the interior, and she should be sounding very nice.

I'm still wanting to not even put in any of the 6.5" speakers and just replace them with a pair of 8's and compression drivers, but that would be a LOT more work, and I can't really afford it right now, as I'm saving about 2K to pay for my rims when they finally get here from Japan. Hopefully, those will be here by March, and I've only been waiting since November. Sucks being as picky as I am, I will not settel for any other type of rims than the ones I've got on order.

ok its very simple and here is what i did becuase i raised the trunk floor up and therefore the old one no longer fit and i had to make new one....just take a piece of cardboard and take some generic measurements of ur trunk and start hacking on da cardboard wit a utility knife.....then keep puttin in the cardboard and cuttin a lil at a time until it finally fits...then just lay it over a piece of wood and trace away and u've got urself a new trunk floor...however the guy in here that said he used 3/4" mdf is crazy...yes that is the prefered wood for the box but to make a floor u are just adding insance weight to the car for no reason other than a floor that it doesn't make a difference what wood u use

I don't think i'd ever attempt one of those installs. Leave it to the professionals.

who says u have to use wood? U can use a large sheet of thin plexi and wrap it just like the wood with a different glue. It'd be a heckofalot lighter too.

0100010 - I'm at the RAAMmat stage myself, and also have 200 sq ft of the stuff to put down. I've got lots of cuts and bloody knuckles but it's going to sound sweet! At this point I'm planning on going with OZ Audio subs, two 15's or four 12's just for SPL. My trunk will be fully funtional with a full size spare and wheel. Since my car is now a 2-seater I'll have plenty of room behind the front seats to fit everything and stay out of the trunk. The subs for the SQ system will be 8's in the kickpanels or doors, haven't decided yet. What amps are you planning on running? I'm looking at either Zapco or maybe U.S.Amps.

hey SQ,

Ever think of looking to ARC Audio amps.. I have a friend that can get VERY good prices on them.. he's a rep and friends with owner of ARC/ Rainbow. ...Just a thought seeing as Image Dynamics now uses exlucively ARC amps in they're demo/reference vehicles.

Cheers

Are we talking about "Mr. Rainbow Reference Rick" ? Good buddy of mine as well. I'm still considering ARC too, especially since they came out with that new gray finish which is beautiful. I'm in no rush to choose equipment as I have tons of "prep" work to get done first. There is a lot of good stuff out there. Are you going to Spring Break Nationals?

Nope.. Can't make it.. March Madness time..I work in sprts gambling.. I am attending Audio Thunder in Toronto though.. I know what you mean about prep Work..I'm reworking my entire install for this year.. Right now I'm stuck between ARC amps, XTANT, or U-Dimension...I'm adding another layer of Brown bread to my Rewiring everything with 1/0 Guage power and 12 Guage Speaker for all. Getting new subs.. Building a Custom eclosure with 1 port tuned for SQ and a Removable port tuned for all out SPL. ....SOOO much work.. Specially just the sanding and Vinyl work he he
