Alpine Type-S components question
I installed some Alpine Type-S 6.5" components today. The tweeters sound great, the woofers sound very weak though. Wiring is all good. I have to fade my HU to the front to balance the output now....otherwise all I'm hearing are the tweeters and the rear speakers. Do I need to amp these? Let me know what you guys think.
Can you hear any sound from the woofer at all? Try listen to vocal and see if you hear a "complete" voice or not...If not, then lower your tweeter level on the crossover(if it has it, I have no idea on type-s's)

It is putting out sound, just not nearly the same level as the stock speakers.

Speaker sensitivity issue......Simply because stock speakers are much more sensitive than type-s's.....ie. those type-s are putting out 90dB/W/m, while I would say stock is at least 93, means you only have 1/2 the level from stock....
I have the type x component. They had nice mid bass while testin them, but in the car, the tweeter sounds great, but mid is lackin. Could have the same problem as you. And i am running these off a rockford 200.2 amp
I haven't been here in a long time

i want to know what the output of your head unit is. i know that you at least have to run those type s's on at least 26watts for them to sound good. if its not enough a simple 50wat amp will fix this try using one of alpine's lower end 4 channel amp.
my two cents

type-s are more sensitive speaker, specifically designed to run off deck power. if they aren't loud enough for you, I dunno what the problem would be

the output of the head unit won't make a difference, there isn't enough variance between power levels between head units (even between stock and aftermarket) for that to be an issue. unless the speakers have an absurdly low sensitivity rating, they should get almost as loud as the stock speakers at comparable volume levels... in fact i dont think you should ever even see a percievable difference... sensivity difference of 3db (90db vs 93db), might sound like a fair bit, but in practice it's like nothing, i doubt you would really be able to tell the difference and even if you could, it would not be a lot.
Turn DOWN your tweeter on the crossver!!.....I really don't know about Type-S, but Type-X, which has JUMPERS onboard of the crossover, you better do the tweeter into the lowest level (-3dB or -4.5dB or whatever, especially on the NEW, Made in China Vifa Type-X wave guide tweeters. The older Dennish made Scan Speak Type-X tweeters isn't that senstive). The tweeters will be very very bright if you install in sail panel(triangular panel covering the mirror) without turning down tweeter level....

ya the tweeters are super bright, try -3db first then -6db (there are jumpers on the crossover). I have my hertz hi-energy tweeters currently attenuated by 3db... 0db is too sharp and 6db too dull, 3db is perfect for me, but keep in mind I am using different speakers altogether.
I remember somebody on this board at one time saying that they have only heard one set of tweeters that didn't need to be knocked down when installed in the sail panels (CDT if i remember correctly) and that included higher end drivers too

The way Alpine does their tweeter attenuation on Type-X is that, it lowers the level of upper level part of freq, such as 8kHz+. Anything between acoustic (not electric) XO point and 8kHz doesn't change. If that area is too bright, then sorry, nothing can help except a wide band EQ (Q=0.5) used at around 6.3kHz....
i just installed type s in my car running off the alpine 9851. i have the tweeters set on 0db and it sounds good, i do have to fader to the front @ 2 or 3. but i have no problems. also installed dynamat in the doors.

OK I adjusted the crossovers.........it's much better, the tweeters don't sound nearly as harsh. I'm still going to amp these speakers though.
Thanks for the help guys.
