upgrading speakers
Hey im planning on upgrading my stocks finally... im thinking of alpine type r's or type s. Im looking for a mix of sq and spl i want clean sound but good thump if that makes any sense lol. well i know im gonna need to make some spacers ect.. but im just owndering if i should get coxials or components... i dont really know the diffrence. another.. should i upgrade fronts and rears or just fronts. Hopefully upgradeing the speakers will be a big improvement, thanks
get the components for the front. Also upgrade front and rear if you want a good mix.
SQ - get rid of the rear
SPL - Use the rear for 'fill' (and subs for the actual Sound Pressure)
Alpine Type R's are low-to- 'middle of the line' for most people. Personally, I'm glad I spent the extra $$$ for my JL Audio XR series speakers. It all really boils down to your budget and type of music you listen to.

if you are looking for ANY spl at all you will wnat to look at a sub (or pair of subs) in addition to speakers. my personal recommendation is to run a high ended set of front speakers as opposed to buying front and rear that are only middle of the road, and getting a sub (or pair, like I mentioned before)
if you only want speakers and no subs, then it goes without saying that you will not be doing any spl

constructive criticism, I hope............
I listened to both the Diamond Audio D6 series and the XR line of JL. I guarantee that YOU couldn't tell the difference between the two.
I would have put the Diamonds in, but ran into space issues, then I heard the JL's. No complaints here.

whatever you get, spend some time and do the install correctly. I have bottom of the barrel infinity reference 6.5 inch all around and they sound amazing, prolly very similar to the expensive speakers. Put a layer of dynamat on the door metal, make sure the spacers that the speaker sits on is sealed up and it wouldn't hurt to stick a dynxorb pad behind the speaker on the outer door skin to prevent back-wave distortion. you can get these from www.carmedia1.com
