Diamond or JL Audio. . .
Diamond or JL Audio. . .
I'm going to replace my front doors speakers and have narrowed it down to these 2 sets of components:

(pic is of last years model)
Dimaond Audio 6 1/2" D661
or

JL Audio XR650 CSi
I have an Alpine CDA 9851 HU and will be powering the speakers with an Alpine MRP-F200 for now.
The amp is:
4 Channel Amplifier
40 watts RMS x 4 at 4 ohms
50 watts RMS x 4 at 2 ohms
100 watts RMS x 2 bridged output at 4 ohms
It is an older V-Power amp.
What I'm trying to accomplish with these are the basis for some nice SQ up front. I haven't decided on whether or not I'll be eliminating my rear speakers. I can get either speakers for the same price locally or ordering online. I have had a chance to listen to the JL Audio and I was very impressed. I got to compare it to Alpine's Type X seperates. The local store does not have the Diamond Audio hooked up right now. A good friend and motorcycle riding partner works at this local shop.
My questions are:
1.) Which ones will provide better midrange punch?
2.) Will this amp be powerful enough until I can afford something nicer? (my local shop says it will be enough and I may not even want to upgrade.)
3.) If your friend worked at the shop and offered you a good deal but you could get them cheaper online, where would you buy them? (I can save $100)
4.) I plan on letting the shop install the speakers. Is this a waste of my money?
I have hooked up several smaller easier systems but it has been 2 years since the last time. I want it done right. Any help you guys/girls can offer will be appreciated.

I have had both sets and now use mb quarts, but for your system i think the diamonds will work best. Dont get me wrong, i had JL xr's and they are great, but i dont think they will give you the midbass you are looking for.

I love JL audio, but in this case, I'm going to have to vote for the diamond audio. I'm not saying the JL is crap, but there's a lot of hype with JL, and that's why most people will say "JL audio".

Thanks for the responses so far. Can anyone help with these questions?

2) About amp I'm still new to it so I have no comment about it. I have never installed amp on my vic yet.
3) If you are going to save more to buy online then I'd say go ahead and buy online instead of your friend.
4) If you really want to save money and If you want to learn to install your speakers then just install it yourself. I installed my own deck. I am going to replace my speakers myself too as soon as I get new ones. Its pretty easy to do it just look at the DIY's here on the site. Their really helpful.

I feel semi-qualified as literally every speaker in my car is Diamond.
My questions are:
1.) Which ones will provide better midrange punch?
I used the Diamond Hex 6.5's in kick panels with a JL 300/2 powering my front stage. They handle a lot and provide a lot. A LOT of that has to do with your enclosure.
2.) Will this amp be powerful enough until I can afford something nicer? (my local shop says it will be enough and I may not even want to upgrade.) You can put a LOT more power to them
3.) If your friend worked at the shop and offered you a good deal but you could get them cheaper online, where would you buy them? (I can save $100) Online... Diamond has warrantied broken **** for me without a receipt anyway...
4.) I plan on letting the shop install the speakers. Is this a waste of my money? Yes.

I pulled my door panel off today bcuz my right front is not playing. So, I think I could handle the install too. I've almost made up my mind. I think I'll go with the Diamonds.
The magnet is bigger and the tweeter is too, so:
I guess I'll have to cut the hole bigger for the 6.5?
Will I need some kinda spacer to get the magnet away from the door?
What about the tweeter?
I don't wanna have kickpanels like the Q-Logic ones. I wanna put them in as close to stock location as possible. Rufus, how did you 'build' your enclosures?
If I plan on running multiple amps (3), Should I go ahead and use a distribution block and run my RCA's now instead of later? Do I use the same remote turn-on for all the amps?

OK....I'm getting the Diamonds!!!!!!
Now I need help/opinions on tweeters. With the Diamond Audio Components you can choose whether you want a silk dome tweeter or an aluminum dome tweeter.
Whats the difference?
My last set of Components were Alpine DDDrive's. They had silk dome tweeters. I liked the softness of the tweeter. It seemed like I could listen all day and my ears weren't fatigued. Are the aluminum tweeters more crisp/bright?
