help with alpine set-up
I'm planning on putting in a new system in my car, and I'm thinking Alpine because I hear alot of you saying it is best for sound quality. I bought the wire today and i'm passing the wires tommorow but i'm not sure about the system so I didn't buy anything today. I'm not sure if I should buy a alpine or pioneer deck. I never listened to Alpine t'ill today. I went in a shop and had him put on a type r 12" DVC 500RMS and it didn't bass as I expected, I don't know if it was only the way it was set-up. anyways, any feedback about your alpine systems would be appreciated. If I decide on Alpine, I think I'll get the DVA-9965 HU (dvd) or CDA-9855 (mp3), The MRD-M605 amp (600rms) and the 12" DVC type r 500rms. is the cda-9855 the one that I heard alot of people say they had problems with? thanks
alpine has great quality products, ive only had one problem with them, the new cda-9855...don't buy it
i had one for 2 days, during the day, because the dash in my civic is slanted up i couldnt see the biolite display. then it decided my bass cd was pretty good wanted to keep it, wouldn't eject or tilt, tryed everything, had to send it back
enough ranting
9853 is the same thing, but less flashy and cheaper, really other than the 9855 alpine has excellent decks, ive always bought alpine HU's
the new type r's are great subs, dont use store set ups to determine how loud subs are, they have 18.1 mm xmax turn it up in the store, i bet it barely moves 7 or 8 mm
these subs are really clear, and play a good range of frequency's well
if you really want some spl, buy 2, then get an mrd-1001 monoblock
your not getting high's? withought a component system the only thing youre going to hear is either bass or really distorted music/bass
ps. never buy wire untill you have your system, always want to buy the neccessary wire for the install!

yeah i'm getting highs, i'm probably gonna get MB quartz components for the front and amp them on a 2 chanel amp (nothing too big). And as for the wire, I bought 4 guage cause I'm not gonna go too big.
Yeah don't go with Alpine's 9855/53. I got and installed a 9853 about a month ago and I just had to send it back because of the GlideTouch bar. There's a dead spot on it and it really pisses me off. Menu is not accessable in that spot. I wish the knowledgeable on here people would have talked me out of getting that model instead of talking me into a Premier or something in the same price range. It made my new Kicker components and stock rear 6x9's sound great, but it makes my sub sound like ***. I played around with all of the HU settings with no luck and now its on its way back to who i bought it from to get replaced.
As for suggestions of what to get, I'd say Premier not with the Rotary Commander. it felt very cheap.

i've got the 9833 and my bro has got the 9853 and i cannot stress how much more i like the 9833(older model) more. that glide touch is just friggin annoying, not to mention the actual faceplate doesn't look as attractive

what is that glide touch your talking about? Is it that white bar I see in the front? How does it work? and what do you think of the alpine dva-9965 (dvd player)? It has that white bar too, probably the same crap as the 9955 and the 9953.

Yeah dude......junk. I can't find that DVD model, but if it has that bar, I'd say get something else.
It replaces the buttons and its 100% unnecessary. You can slide your finger over the bar to scroll through the menu, which is ******* hard to do, and I hate it. I wish i would have went with an older one or spent a few extra. Maybe I can get rid of my new on that's on its way and get what something else. It pisses me off a little because I spent 2 weeks researching to find the right deck for me. oh well...lesson learned.
