Mowhawk or Silly Rabit..... ???? .....
Ok heres the deal. First i'll start with the only change i have made recently but i can't see how this has to do with my problem. I changed decks from a Premier DEH-p740MP to an Alpine CDA-7995. Now both of these have a 4 volt out-put so they should be equal. from there the Sub out goes to my Audio Control EPIC-150. Now it says it has a 9.5 continous and 13 peak voltage. Ok now onto my problem. I have had this in my car for 2 months now with no problems at all. I have taken it on trip where it has been at full volume for 2 hrs and never cut out or clipped or anything. Now this past weekend i took a trip to the west coast of Fl. I had a chick with me so the volume never got past 5. After about an hour on the road we started to smell something. I thought maybe a fire outside or something comin through the ac. Then our eyes start to water so i pull over to check out the trunk. Well the trunk stinks like fumes and i touch the amp and it is hot as hell. so i pull the power wires and get on with my trip thinking my amp is fried. Well now back from vacation i plug it back in just to see what happens. And it still plays. So whatever was burning didn't ruin it but i know something is wrong with it for smokin like that. the gain on the amp is like at half way which is prob too high seeing that the audio control sends out such a high signal but the volume was never turned up at the time so would the gain setting even matter? the amp does not have a fuse but u are supposed to put one before the amp but i hadn't gotten around to that yet seeing you need a 200 amp fuse and i don't have them just laying around. I do have it fused at the battery but not right outside the amp. Its hooked up to a 2 farad cap also. so anyways let me know if you have any idea what it is that i'm roasting. or what else i can tell you about the set-up for a better answer. thanx....

it sounds like your voice coils are burning.. same thing happened to me, the amp was really hot but it was the subs that smelled... try taking one out and smell the back of it...

Hmm..sounds like you may have had a short with your power wire..or one of your speaker wires..if your subs VC's were friend they wouldn't be working right now.. you probably had 1 or 2 strands of wire shorting out and causing some carpet or some plastic to melt..
