Anyone using iPod and iTrip in their 7thgen?
I just got an ipod and the itrip function for it so that i play use my ipod in my car, but i am having some troubles. I have it all programmed to work, but it comes up kinds staticy and such. I tried tapping the antenna wire and moving it closer to the ipod so that it gets better reception, btu that didnt help at all. has anyone had success with the itrip in their 7thgen and if so, what did you do?
I take it that it would hook up just like my Sirius radio does to the CD Changer slot on the OEM cd player. I use that and a ground loop isolator (not sure if you need that for the ipod) and it made a HUGE difference over using the FM modulator.
itrips suck. i have an alpine deck which has an AUX input in the back so i bought one of these babies http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=764 and just wired it up directly. works great. hmm im not sure about your deck tho, check the owners manual and see if it has RCA inputs in the back. if it does, you're in luck, cuz radioshack (prolly best buy, circuit city as well) sells headphone jack to RCA cables.
if you dont have inputs in the back, i dun know what to tell ya. you may want to look into the fm transmitter made by Monster, its $80 bucks tho. but its gotten a lot better reviews and seems to have better sound quality than the Griffin itrip. http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPL....1.1.1.0.1.0.1
you also have one last option, if you have a tape deck in your car, just buy one of those tape things that goes from your ipods headphone jack to a tape which plays in your tape deck. its prolly your cheapest and best option if you dont have inputs in your deck. but if you dont have a tape deck, that wont work either, obviously.

i just ordered one of those. you can get them for about $20 off ebay. i would go with the first one (the CD-RB10) because you could use it to connect something else that has only rca cables and use an adapter to connect your ipod to it. the CD-RB10 gives you more options for the same price so i would go with that. check on ebay for them cuz they are cheaper.
I would go with this: http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=702

imo, its not worth the extra 70 bucks when you can just see all the info on your ipod.

i dont see whats so hard about controling the ipod from the ipod. its all of 6-12 inches away from the HU anyway...
the charging feature is nice i guess, but a car charger can be had for like $25. so an RCA cable and a charger is gonna be like $55-$60. still 30 bucks cheaper than that thing. and the only diff is you cant control it from the HU.
but whatever, its his money.
having the module also balances sound better...you dont have to pick the correct output level from the ipod and match it to the volume on your HU. The only reason I could see going with the cheaper RCA option is to save money, and I would rather spend the extra for the functionality of the HU/iPod module.

car chargers aren't good for high end electronics.... i remember reading somewhere that the way the waves are modified it's not the same as a wall outlet.... i only charge my crappy phone with the car charger...
I use the Monster iCable.... got it half price.... it's doing the job quite well.
