Rep Power: 322 Sub, amp install on stock car help.
Well, i've been working on this all day..
I just wanted to put a small sub i had laying around in my sister's car. It's a single JL 8w3 in a small ported box. I got an MTX 282, two channel bridgeable amp to power it. I wanted to tap off the rear speakers connected to the speaker level inputs on the amp. The amp should be able to turn on automatically when it sees a signal.
Even if i jump the remote to the power wire, it will turn on, but there's still no signal.
I get it all hooked up and there's not sound from teh rear speakers, and the amp doesn't turn on. If I unplug one of the speakers momentarily, then plug it back in, the speakers will start up ans so will the amp, then all is good.
It's a new Toyota Camry. It seems like the HU knows when i have something onnected to the rear speakers, and won't send anything to them.
I also tried making a crude line level converter with some 1k and 10k resistors as a voltage divider and tried connecting it to the RCA inputs, but still the same problem. Any ideas??
Thanks!!
Ed

Rep Power: 0 okay, i have a test for you to do for me
if this works, i have a simple solution for you
unplug the + off a speaker while the radio is off
turn on radio with wire unplugged
plug in wire
see if it works...
or, does it have to be turned on, THEN unplugged, then plugged in to work...

Rep Power: 322 That works, leaving it unplugged, then turning it on and then plugging it in.
Are you thinking possibly a relay connected to a switched signal switching the + pole of the input?
Thanks for the thoughts!

Rep Power: 0 www.davidnavone.com has a piece for 19.95 that delays the relay turn-on for up to 2.5 seconds...
the same thing could be built for 5-6 dollars at radio shack (resistor, capacitor, relay)

Rep Power: 322 I haven't gotten around to doing anything with it yet, since I left for school.
Alex, if you think a LOC will do the trick, I think I might go ahead and pick one up.
Thanks everyone, I'll update the thread as I get it working [hopefully ]
