98 Civic Keyless entry quit working

My keyless entry quit working a few weeks ago. Thought it might be the transmitter battery so I changed it. Still no luck. When resetting with the radio it is activating the door locks as I can hear them. However when I get out of the setting mode the transmitter does not work. I don't know if this is related but the interior dome light, in the middle position, no longer fades out after 30 seconds it stays on but at a lower brightness.

Any thoughts on this one?

Thanks,

Colorado

For some reason older Civics had the door locks connected to the stereo system ...someone at Honda was an idiot for that call...and also for making the speaker holes in our cars like horse shoes

did you have honda reprogram the transmitter? if the battery was dead for an extended period of time you may have to get it reprogrammed. other than that, check for fuses and loose connections at the brain. also if you changed the radio away from OEM they wont work.

yep - aftermarket on the 98 involves wiring through the stock radio. You need special harnesses.

radioactive77 has a little shameless behaviour in the past
