Big problems
Big problems
I have a brand new Ex Coupe. I was getting a really good deal on a reciever and speakers from a friend of mine. I went to let him install the stuff. And once he started i kind of realized he had no idea what he was doing. Everything went somewhat ok, until.... he had to hook up the reciever.
He said that the harness he bought didnt fit the harness that was in the car. So he cut the one in the car and tried to wire it up himself. That didnt work, and i had a long long drive home so i had to forget about it and deal with it later. We put my dash back together, and i left. but on the way my taillights and Turn signals went out, along with the lights for climate control and the lights by the shifter.
I went to cirrcuit city the next day to have it fixed. The guy said that what he cut had nothing to do with the Stereo. It was either the security harness or the climate control harness. And the fuse was blown for the Turn signals/ Hazards, but that was the only one blown. I replaced it but it didnt change anything. Anyone have any idea what happnened to my car?

Well if only the lights on your climate controls are out along with your tail lights, you friend probably shorted out the parking light wire on the radio harness. This is usually a red wire with black stripe. See if you friend wired up the radio ground wire to it, or if he left it bare and had it touching a metal part in the dash.
Now if the actual climate controls do not function, try to see if your friend did in fact cut into one of the two harnesses for it.
There's also a chance that the bulbs for the lighting might have blown.

Well see the guy at cirrcuit city took care of the wires that he had all ****ed up. So no wires in there are hitting each other, should i take the dash off and check that again? I just checked the fuse again and its all good.

Do you still have the plug from the harness that he cut off ?? If the wires are long enough it could be spliced on (with some work) matching the wire colors 1 by 1.
So what lights are still missing and what fuse was blown ??
I have some wiring info, if you need it for troubleshooting let me know.

The Tailights, Turning Signals, Hazards, Climate Control lights, and Shifter lights all don't work. I dont even get the clicking noise from the turn signals.
The only fuse that was blown was the one for Turn Signals/Hazards, in the hood fuse box. Replaced that and its still no good.
The guy still has the harness and i am gona get some people from work to put it back on there, bc see my car has like 6000 miles and i hear that cutting that harness voids the warranty, so i am gona see what i can do to make it appear uncut.

kill your friend. feed his insides to himeslf slowly as he bleeds to death for his incompetence. j/k, but seriously, at least slap him around for being retarted
I'd take your radio bezel out and check out what's going on back there. It almost sounds like the hazard switch harness isn't even plugged in. Who knows, maybe the circuit city guys doesn't know what he's doing either....
Couple things:
1. Sounds like the dipshit cut the wire harness for your interior lighting and left it like that without securing the bare ends when you left. OR at least touch the parking light wire to ground first. So, the interiors didn't work cuz the wires are cut. And the tailights didn't work because the wire shorted. The fuse fixed the tailights right? Now you've got to splice your wires back together with that harness. Tell your friend there is a new concept in this world, called the merchandise exchange! If he had the wrong harness he should've swapped it out - you don't cut the harness off a brand new car unless you wear a helmet to school and ride an 8 foot bus. Anyway, I hate to break this to you, but the only way you'd be able to repair your harness so that the dealer can't tell would be to replace the harness with an OEM one as far back as it plugs into whatever other harness it plugs with. Another alternative to trick the dealer would be to chase the wires back to where they go behind the dash, out of sight, and splice in there - trying to mirror the stock harness look exactly. I wouldn't even let this same donkey put the harness back together that took it apart though. You should get that harness from him, kick him good in the beans, and get someone with at least half a brain to put it back together. Then get the right a/m wiring harness for your car and have the radio installed the right way. And no offense, but don't ever let someone touch your brand new car unless you are confident they know WTF they are doing.
I remember years ago, there was an article in one of the car audio magazines cautioning "backyard" installers, with a story about a young kid cutting the wire to his airbag accidentally and deploying the bag right into the side of his face - Fing him up real bad.

Well the tailights still dont work. And the guy still has the harness that he cut. But see i am in Virginia and he is in NY. So that kind of makes things difficult.
Fortunatly enough I am in the navy, so i got some help from a few et's and em's and they are going to see what they can do. They said it shouldnt be a problem to get the harness back like new.

Yes RUN!
ur friend doesnt know what he is doing so I think you are better off doing the work yourself... if u lived near me I would do it for u but try asking some 7thgeners on this site to help you out with the install...
btw, the harness from ur car to the receiver should be BLUE coloured, hazards and climate control stuff is either Green or Light Gray.

Yep it was a green one that he cut, it was about half the size of the radio harness.
I found some guy from my boat that said he can re-atttach it and make it look 99.9% factory. And hes going to do the rest of my system. Hes an electricians mate in the Navy. And installs sound systems at a local place on the weekends. I wish i would have met this guy 2 weeks ago.
