absolutely 100% NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and in case it comes up, several pieces of 16 gauge will not work either.
go to an audio store and get the same size that you are running from the battery to the cap and use that for your ground. don't cheap out or go half assed

everybody sells wire by the foot, it comes in spools and they just cut off what they need
if anything, the shorter the better becuse if you buy more they always give u a little extra and in turn lose some money, but with short you will get exactly what you need
go buy like 3 feet and a couple ring terminals

8 gauge?? why would you assume 8 gauge??
Megahurtz is right. You should get ground wire that is eqivalent size to the power wire you are running. Nothing wrong with 8 gauge. If your running 8 gauge power, get 8 gauge ground wire.
Yes they should sell you 3ft of ground wire. If they don't, then I guess they're trying to be dicks. It is recommended to use 3ft or less of ground wire. You really don't need more than 3ft of ground wire. If you do need more than 3ft of ground wire, you need to get some help, and get someone else to install your audio. The reason I say this, is the fact that there are so many grouding locations you can use.

check out the yellow pages and try to find one of those family owned car audio stores. 4-gauge wire goes from $1-$2 per foot depending how good it is. and 8 guage should be around 75 cents-$1.25.
goodguys sells monster cable by the foot as well.
get whatever size your power cable is. then get 3-5 feet of another.
