Amp Kit
Whats up fellas
Sound encounters, the place installing my new amp, subs and components is trying to charge 107.00 just for all the wires I need - does that sound right???? its for 4ga wires, RCAs, connectors etc...all the wires needed for the install. and this isn't even a pre made kit - its off the roll.... is that too high or is that about right? Total - from this shop its going to be 107 for the wires, 80 for the components and 65 for the amp...total of about 250.00

$65 for the amp? That should be the most expensive part. What are they using?
as far as the install...if they are including the install in that $107, that's about right for audiohouse installs and wiring. If that is just for the wiring, I would be suspect.

what are they using? like for power wires and the such? i dunno - they said it was top quality, and i believe them, they have a good rep. just really high prices. 107 JUST for the wires seems like a lot to me though - especially since its off the roll and not pre-packaged.
107 for wires seems like a lot to me as well. On eBay, a 4ga wiring kit only runs about 20-35$, unles syou're going for the really name brand stuff. I assume the power wire isn't too special, leaving the cost to be left in the RCAs, I don't feel it's completely necessary to buy such expensive RCAs. If you can do the install yourself, you can save a good chunk of money.

Ask them what's so special about the high end wires? If they tell you something about the power or ground, speaker wire, or remote wire quality, be suspect, they're trying to rip you off. If they say something abuot the RCA's, then chances are they are trying to help you out. If it's an amp for components only, I'd venture to say that is't no more than 100 watts per channel. You'd be fine with 8 gauge. Tell them you want to buy it off a roll, as opposed to buying a kit. It should be around $10-15 for Power, Ground, Remote, And Speaker wire, if that much. Then an additional $25-whatever you want to spend on RCA's. I'd recommend looking at Knuconceptz RCA's, as they're cheap, but good quality.
Install fee should be no more than $50 to install it. If the $107 is for wire and install fee, then it's a good price. If it's for just wire, take it elsewhere. What gear you getting BTW?

alright heres what i got.
Front
CDT-61a's http://www.thezeb.com/p-CDT-Audio-CL...tem-101083.htm
powered by Kenwood Kac-7201 http://www.etronics.com/product.asp?stk_code=kenkac7201
Rockford fosgate 6x9's http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/produ...wer%20Coaxials
powered by the deck http://sm.crutchfield.com/S-YJJkBzuj...s&i=158CDXM995 (only mine has blue lights, not red)
Sub
Ascendant Audio Atlas 12" http://www.ascendantaudio.com/Atlas%2012.htm (check it out!)
powered by Kenwood Excelon x401m http://store.yahoo.com/discave/kackenexmonc.html
Ok so now that thats all in the open, haha...
Right now i have my old kenwood 7201 running my Audiobahn sub. I want to take my old amp out and switch in the Excelon to run my new sub. I want to take the old amp (ken 7201) and run the components from it.
The installer has to
1. Install components
2. Take out existing amp
3. Add Excelon to existing amp wires
4. Run all wires for 2nd amp (ken 7201)
5. Mount Amps
6. Drop in new sub
and again - the 107.00 is JUST for the wires and connectors. they're charging $80 to put in the components and $65 to wire the 2nd amp. sound right?

huh?! really?! 100/150!? damn, i don't think i can get those prices around here. the only other shops around here are best buy and circuit city. well actually, wait...you say the install should be about 150...plus parts? so then that would be around 250 which they quoted me...
the prices at best buy for a complete 8 ga kit is gonna cost you about 85 bucks and install is about 60. 4 ga complete kit is about 110. thats just for the amp.
speakers are 35 a pair for install but components are around 60. for a deck install depending if they are running free basic install or not is gonna depend. on our car they charge i believe 1 custom labor which is 16.99 plus 50 for labor plus parts (50-70). if they are running free basic its you pay for parts plus any custom labors. dash kit is 18.49 and harness is 18.49. in my opinion best buy on their install sometimes is a rip. but then again thats why just learn to do it yourself.

Seriously, just worry about the RCA's. The rest, wire is wire, it's not going to matter brand name on those, as I stated above. Tell them thanks, but no thanks, and buy the wire yourself. You can getit for about $0.08 a foot or so on Ebay. You won't need anything more than 4 gauge. Find some good quality RCA's is the only thing I'll tell you. The rest is of no matter. You could use any kind of wire for it really, as long as it's the right size, and you'd be fine. Hell, you could use a lamp cord if you wanted (assuming it's 4 or 8 gauge)...
