Big Rob has a little shameless behaviour in the past
Sealed or ported?

I'm trying to figure out which enclosure would be best for me. I listen to mostly rock and metal and I'm not sure which one to go with. Crutchfield claims that people prefer ported enclosures for metal. But a few other sites claim that sealed enclosures are good for rock. Now I'm stuck in between. The size of the enclosure doesn't really matter to me, just the quality. I'm going to build a setup with 2 12" Rockford Punch 1s.

sealed will give you tighter bass but ported will give you more volume.

your best bet is to get 10s...... you can play them louder and get better and quicker resonse but not necissarily deeper than 12s....

its easier to tune w/ a seal box than a ported box, theres a lot of parameter of when considerin a ported ones.

my suggestion is to build a seal box and know ur method of calculating ur volume to the drivers specs.

I'd say go sealed for metal and rock. I'm not sure why Crutchfield claims that, it doesn't make sense to me. I mean, ported will handle upper bass with less distortion but who the hell can notice distortion in metal?

It depends on the driver charecteristics in a ported versus sealed box. Some subs are just as tight and punchy in a ported box as they are sealed. I would say sealed though, because it is easier to build and tune.

if you want a box that takes awhile and some math to build then go ported, if you want to get your system in ASAP and still have it sound good then go sealed.

I just did ported and its awesome so I'd suggest it, I'm just saying it took awhile to figure out/make the box. if size of the box doens't matter go ported to specs.
