RCAs can make a difference?
Ok, Either I've just proven myself wrong about something, or something is going on that I am not aware of. Putting an amp in my GF's car. So, naturally she needs RCAs. Well, Using my hookup at a local shop, I pull off 2 pairs of Micro XLNs for cough* $43.00 for both. Well, if I'm frontin' the dough, you had better believe I'm getting the XLNs and she's getting my old RCAs. So, today I ripped out my old 300 series Monster RCAs and put in the XLNs.
OMFG - I have no idea what the hell happened, but my bass is hitting much harder. Strange. Now, normally I am a big proponent of RCAs are RCAs, they make a very minor difference. This is not minor. I had to turn down my gains after this. First assumption would be the old cables are F'd up. But how could a faulty cable deliver a perfectly clean sound, just at a lower level? Anyone have any insight?

RCA's make some difference if you are to run it in very long configuration because of noise intrusion and voltage drop(well, not really). Otherwise, it is the money and cosmetic issue. I was told by my friend at a car audio shop that you don't really hear a difference unless you have a gold ear.
I keep my RCA's as short as 3 ft and they are grouped at one place, so no difference.

Better connector means better conduction. For seriously, get any kind of cheapest shielded cable(unshield is fine for short distance) and change the connector will work out great. Just no reason to pay premium $99/15ft cable.
J187, do I know you? I just had a good customer buy some XLN's a couple days ago? BTW, I've found (after doing several +$20,000 systems) when it comes to RCA's, cheaper is better, and do NOT buy twisted video cables! Just my .02.. We spin all our own RCA's to length, and never have a problem. Break out the pricey Monsters, noise. The uber-expensive JL cables, OTOH, no problems.
maybe your old RCAs were crimped from panels or one of the ends was damaged. I've used Scosche RCAs and Monster Cable RCAs, and they both sounded fine, when the install was done well.

i thought RCA's really make no audible difference? It probbaly might count if your trying to get every last Db out of your system. But for the avg joe i dont think it makes a difference.
Just dont go super cheap and get ones that are made of like string and cheese. haha
