WTF is wrong with my system?

Well guys, when i turn from volume 0- whatever and from volume whatever -0, i hear this pop noise the sub makes....... and when i start the car i hear noises from the sub even when it is playing music... the system plays fine, its just that its gettin on my nerves...... yesterday me and my friend replaced my RCA's, checked my ground, and replaced the remote........ and still does it!!!!!! the only thing i havent checked is the power......... could that be it? its done this to all my other amps and other subs also... so its not them... and when i leave it on volume 0 sometimes... the sub pumps in and out... just hearing an "air" noise... its weird.... and im tired of it..... ive spent so much on new wires... would it be worth it going to an audio shop for them to check it out? the only thing i dont like is getttin raped for money..... i just really hope its the power because thats the only thing i can possible think of...

- my ground is perfect, length, chassis, paint scraped, etc.
-RCA's are prefect
-Amp and Sub are perfect
-CD player is perfect
errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

its happened to two other boxes of mine.... so its not the enclosure because it was built by a custom audio shop for 200 and they checked it...... amp is tuned to the correct settings.... happened to all my other amps too....

The popping you hear is caused from the remote wire. Make sure that it is connected to the remote wire not the power antennae, since both wires are blue. Also follow the wire from the unit to the amp and make sure that there that it is not pinched somewhere and is exposed to the chassis. This will also cause this problem due to it is catching a ground signal. More that likely this is what is giving you grief. Good luck.

mine did that too! I actually turned the subsonic filter on on my amp and that took care of most of the noise! I know what you mean, mine would just start whistling and even making sort of gargling sounds all of a sudden and even while it is playin music! I checked and wiggled all my wires and rca's but that didnt do it! if your amp has a subsonic filter on it, try switching it on and see if that doesnt help! But i would follow rolodoggx advice first and see if that doesnt do it! I never actually pulled the remote wire out from under the floor to see if there were any pinched or exposed parts cuz it is just too much trouble! My wire is under the door sill and behind the rear plastic panels below the rear side windows! Way too much effort to take that apart! Good luck though!

You should really try and run the power and remote wire together and put some wire loom around it from the deck to your amp. Then you can run the rca's along side of them. If you dont then you will hear a whininng sound as you accelerate and when the car slows down, this is due to the current from the power wires is penetrating the rca wires. check the remote to begin with and this should fix your problem.

You could temporarily run +12 to the remote terminal. to turn the amp on. Just make sure you don't leave it like that or you will have a dead battery.

remote needs to be run to a 12vdc to turn on

un hook it. run it to the + of say your trunk light. if your trunks openb it will be on
break light. run direct to battery etc.. will all work

If you want to test your remote just run one outside the car from the turn on input of the amp to the + of the battery. Simple, direct and dependable.

Yes and no. You can get alternator whine from several different causes aside from just that. And the remote turn on gives such a little amount of current that you do run it down the same side as the RCAs, you won't notice any audible difference. Maybe you might see it on an O scope but that's about it. The only place at work where we use wire loom is under the hood and in the trunk and we've never had any noise problems. Plus the dude said a popping noise, not a whining noise. But yes you are correct when saying to check the remote wire.

Did you check the tinsel leads on the sub? Did you properly tune your amp (Not did you turn the ***** till it sounded ok)? I mean did you set everything properly in respect to the Theile-Small parameters of your sub? I'd check all of my wires first.

As far as alternator whine, a good set of RCA's shouldn't pick up interference from the alternator.

^ Ha, if more people built their boxes according to T/S parameters, there would probably less than half the amount of blown subs. But an installer can dream...
