UNDER the car?! Why in the world would you want to do that? That's definitely not a good idea.

I did it and I would like to know why not? LOL I can't wait to here this?
in fact why would you run 1/0 thru the vehicle? no matter where you run it your going to see it thru the carpet, you might be able to hide it ok I guess. but its much easier to run under and then up. It doesn't hurt the wire.

I think its the drain plug they are talking about mega, under the spare tire. If I get a chance tomorrow, I'l try to find it for you and take pics. I don't see anyproblems with it as long as you loom the whole section of wire that's outside the car.

i was able to run 1/0 gauge in my car on the passenger side in 10 minutes, and no, it can not be seen through the carpet.

seems like a hassle to run it under the car, looming the entire wire, making sure its secure and wont be obstructed by anything.

Well lets see...why is running wire under the car bad? Something could hit it and cut it, and seeing as it carries a lot of current, thats bad. It could get caught on something, and rip out, and then you are dragging a big wire, possibly with electrical load on it. Chemicals and heat from the road and anything you drive through could in theory erode/damage the insulation on the wire, again, causing big problems.

Running wire under the car is really ghetto IMO. Running through the car isn't an issue at all, I have 1/0, 3 RCA's, 2 AiNet and four 12 AWG speaker wires running under my carpeting and you can't see any of it.

The only way I would consider running your wire under the car is if you were to securely bolt PVC or solid electrical tubing to the under side of the car and run your wire through that, however I don't think it is necessary unless you are running 3 or more 1/0 wires, or a larger wire (2/0 +)

lmao if u run it prperly under the car.. youd bottom out before hitting it.. i'd be more worried bout wut i ripped OFF the car before i'd concern mysel fover some wires :|

second..
you could buy the plastic tube crap thats ribbed.. run it in that

and the grommet u are wanting.. right by the break lights. pull the carpet forward and have a look aroudn its there

i'll take a pic tomorow possibly. as i will possibly be pissin aorund in my trunk since my garage is now empty.. YAY!

Are you forgetting that all sorts of wires and lines run under you car that are far more important, vulnerable and dangerous than a power wirer. For instance, fuel lines, brake hoses, and the same 14v power lines for o2 sensors, abs sensors, etc. There are tons of wires, tubes and lines run underneath all vehicles. If you do it right, securely and with loom there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.

Yes, but the car was engineered so that these lines dont get hurt. Ever feel a fuel line? Its made like it was to be put on a rocket or something, they are tough. A rock will not cut into your fuel line. And most brake line and wires are up below the bottom surface of the car and behind something else.

Dont put a power wire under the car, try running it through the nipple behind the passanger's side of the firewall below the glove box then trough the interior somehow. I went through the bottom of the plastic trim that touches the floor but a 1/0 gauge wire probably wont fit there. If its inside and not getting beat up its obviously safer.

DBDIJON is an unknown quantity at this point
This is one of those cases where everyone is right. I the wire is fused and loomed and securely fasened to the underside of the car it will not get hurt. Use a grommet when going back into the car. But on the other hand its harder to work on, service if need be and if you can see even one inch of it you should be flamed out of existance. Ask any audio shop where they would run it and they will tell you inside the car.

The only wires running underneath our cars are the ABS sensor which is tucked up high into the body, the fuel lines are braided steel, and the brake lines are solid lines, bolted to the frame.

As I said, if you ran the power wire inside electrical tubing or PVC pipe it would be alright in theory, but it's still kinda ghetto IMO.

A fuse would only protect in the event of a short or ground out on the vehicle chassis. It can still spark on something else, and even if the wire isnt powered, would you want 10 feet of 1/0 dragging under the car getting caught in ****?

Also, I have grounded out a 1/0 line before without blowing the fuse. If you don't exceed the current draw of the fuse, it won't blow.

And as far as your "gloob" comment, which is a rather stupid word, as is "noob;" you joined this site in April of 2004, and have 324 posts.

I joined in Nov. 2002, was a Super Moderator for over a year, and have close to 4,000 posts. So why don't you take the cocky attitude and insults elsewhere, "gloob."
