iPod and Alpine 9835
iPod and Alpine 9835
So I have spoiled myself this last week. After finding a great deal on the 60gig iPod, I couldn't resist buying it. The day after I bought the iPod, I just so happened to be at BestBuy and remembered about the Alpine adapter for their headunits. So I bought that and installed it Sunday afternoon on the panel below the fuse box.
I have to say I love being able to drive around with one device that holds every single cd I own and that my friends own. The controls are extremely easy to use on the hu.
The only problem: There is 668 artists in my iPod, equalling just over 7000 songs. You can search artists through the hu, however it takes just over 3 minutes to get through the Artists with the first letter of "A". The main problem is the volume **** is used to scroll through the artist/song title. When I try to search through the artists quickly, the scroll bar on the screen jumps around. So everytime I have to slowly scroll down, making it very annoying.
If anyone has any suggestions on possibly correcting this issue that would be great.
Thanks in advance.

Does it work the same way that file search does on the 9835? If so, you push the search button and turn the rotary to search around. However, if you hold the search button for 3 seconds, you can skip much, much faster by number until you come to an approximate area where the file you want is, then you go back to file name searching. Also, I'd try putting the songs in seperate folders and seeing if you can jump from folder to folder. I don't have the Ipod hooked up, but I know thats how you do it if you've got 200 songs on a cd.
i haven't tried holding the search button down. it basically works the same way as a mp3 cd though.
i might break up folders alphabetically if the 3 second search button doesn't work. example, all "A" bands go into an 'A' folder to make searching a little easier.
Thanks

I decided to get an iPod since I found the winamp plugin(meaning dont gotta use iTunes) I dunno if I want a regular one or an iPod mini so I can get the oink case..lol I dont really need 20 gigs thats why I'm thinking of getting the mini, what y'all think?
depends on how much music you have. I had a 20 gig iRiver that I had filled within the first few days. Right now I have 20gigs out of my 60gigs available and want to add many more bands. So think about what you really need...
Yes you can put folders on an Ipod. Every folder you create shows up on the ipod as a playlist. There for you can have, I beleive, up to 20 folders to organize music.

Well, there is no fast search by holding the search button for 3 seconds. It looks like I will just make playlists that seperate bands alphabetically.
I should probably RTFM and get a better understanding for everything.

i've been trying to get my boss to buy a new 60gb iPod photo and give me the 40 gig one, no luck yet, but he's weakening...$479 looks a lot better than $599, and he's got over 39gb of music
anyone have an iPod wired into a stock headunit? i don't wanna use the FM adapter...

so hold on, i am a little confused. the alpine hu you mentioned, the 9835 or whatever, it can or cannot scroll through the songs faster. craiger said that it will not scroll fast, and J187 said the opposite. maybe i am not getting something...
I have a 4th gen 40 gig iPod. i like it, and i dont carry CDs in my car anymore. I don't think i need to upgrade my hu, mine has an "AUX" port and i can plug my iPod into that. sucks having to scroll through songs while driving, pretty much have to be stopped to get to the song you want...
