Since you are already on the right track with everything alpine, keep it that way. Best bet would be a MRV-F340, not the cheapest, but as I have learned the hard way, you get what you pay for. It is a V-12 series and is compatible with your Bass-Engine. I have a 4-channel V-12 and it has never failed me. For a little more you could get the MRV-F345, both of these would also be great for the Type-S's, sufficient for the Type-R's, but not sure how they would power the SPX series.

Should not need a cap. Try it first without, if you want, add cap later.

As far as the capacitor is concerned, some say that you really don't need one until you start pushing over 1000W nominal, but the smallest sign of your lights flickering would indicate the need for one. I have just under 1000W flowing and I installed a 1 farad and this ceased the flickering. It will definately help the life of your alternator.

you technically only need a cap if your going to push 500 or more watts due to teh power surge under playing conditions. As for the amp I agree with the above posted due to the fact that I use to have Alpine products in my car. I have since moved on to clarion though.

I have a fair amount of Alpine in my car, however I have been looking at Clarion HU's, what can you tell me about it?

None of the cap answers except J187's are correct. You do not need a cap ever. You might want a cap if dimming bothers you. hat's the only thing it's good for. It doesn't help prolong your alternator (as mentioned above). It does not help your electrical system (not mentioned, someone was thinking it though, I can tell). No minimum amount of power is needed before needing a cap. You can run 1/2 a farad or 30 farads to a 50X2 amp if you choose. It's not going to do anything to hurt it, or help it. The only thing a cap is good for is dimming. It's not even the most logical solution for that either. The method I'd use to combat dimming would be 1)upgrade all major grounds (altrnator, motor, etc). 2) Upgrade battery to a spiral cell/sealed battery such as an optima, exide 34, Batcap800, etc. 3) HO Alternator (though I might actually try a cap before doing this because a cap's cheaper than an alternator). If dimming doesn't bother you, don't worry about it at all. Also, the rule of thumbs (before the question is asked) is generally 0.5 farad per 500 watts (or 1 farad per kW). If you choose to dispute the fact that caps do anything other than combat dimming (notice I never said it fixes dimming) please provide me some data that proves this. Better yet, don't rovide me with ****, show it to richard clark. Prove to him a cap does anything else (by science, physics, etc) and he'll pay you $5000. If you believe other wise, it's because an audio shop has warped your mind around the idea that a cap helps the electrical system's integrity. Tell them to bite your *** too.

Ya Popcorn and J187 is right you dont need a cap specially just to power some components and 6x9s. Cap doesnt do much really but prevent your headlights from flickering. You could also get like a apexi power grounding kit and it does the same thing. And atleast with that some people said they got little better throttle response and little better gas milage. I dont know that for a fact just what i have read from people. But i do know it stops your lights from flickering.
