alpine type-s 6-1/2 components, sps-171A

Just wondering, I bought these speakers because I kept reading how they fit perfectly ands its an easy install.

but I noticed on alpines installation instructions, it states that you have to cut metal around where you mount it?.. is this true or do you not have to?..

thanks.

NO speaker fits perfectly by itself. There are no drilled holes to mount a speaker, and the opening in the sheet metal is not round.

Some ppl have been bolting/ziptying to the plastic speaker bracket the OEM speaker comes in, but I highly recommend (for sound quality and install ease) to buy/build speaker adaptors. 1/2" works well, but you can use 3/4" if you have to, but the last door panel clip may not engage if you do.

this is actually pretty funyn this thread was made...I just bought some Alpine SPS-170A they are the 6.5" that arent the componets for my rears. And just ordered some sps-171a for my fronts today actually.,

I did quiet a bit of research before i went with these i went to like 8 different shops to hear them all to make sure it was what i wanted.

From what i have read these speakers are about the best to run in our civics. There is a adapter plate that comes with the speakers so you dont have to make one or buy one. I havent installed them yet cause well i just ordered the fronts today. But from what i read its a easy install without having to cut anything. Ill let you guys know when i get mine in and installed them. I was gonna install the back one this weekend along with my amp and my HU that i have had forever and never got around to installing it.

The SPS-171A is a VERY good choice of components to run in our Civics, both for ease of installation and sound quality/sound efficiency (especially when using deck power)

The front speakers will go right in no problem because they come with adapter plates SPECIFICALLY for a 7th Gen Civic. The tweeters will go right in as well without having to use any of the fancy tweeter hardware to create a surface or flush mount. All I remeber doing was putting a little spacer on the screw so that it wouldn't bottom out. But this was using the factory screw on the aftermarket tweeter so I expected a problem there.

Either way you guys got the right idea, and I run these speakers for myself so if you have more questions, post em here

ya megahurtz is actually who ive see talk alot about them. I might not post much on here but i read like everything. Im not new to car audio i ran many competitions back in my high school years but since ive had kids im not alot to do all that...wifey wont let me. but i did talk her into letting me atleast do what i said above. its a start i guess.

Out of all the 6.5's ive heard the alpines looked to be the best for the money and for the size we can put in that space. very crisp sound. i think i might even take off tomorrow just to start putting in my rear speakers with the amp and my HU.

forgive me I read alpines instructions wrong: it stated something along the lines of, you may need to cut to allow for better sound reproduction. otherwise the driver may sound muffled. okay so my question changes to

has anyone made any cuts to allow for it to sound better? or has anyone noticed that it sounds muffled?

ya they fit great...sound great also i just need to tweak it a bit with my HU and the Gain on the amp. You dont get much closer then those sps-171a in the front to the window. but with the adapter alpine gives you its a easy install.

I did have some complication trying to pull new speaker wire thru the doors but i got it. Its a very tight fit thru the gromment. so if u are pulling new wires be patient use a coat hanger and wd-40 on the coat hanger. And make sure u put enough tape on there but not to much to bulk it up otherwise it wont go thru.

Oh the best way i got it thru was on the driver side take the plastic panel off that covers the hood realeae and feel for the gromment into the car and stick the coat hanger in that way...on the passenger side go thru the opening where the speaker goes into the car. Its hard to get it thru the inside to the door.

cool
so a beginner like me should have little or no problems, would you know if the tweeters need some cutting of any kind to mound it?
what tools might i need?
it would be my first time installing components

uh....
how about the amp....

ya installing the components themselves is a very easy install..Only thing u might get stuck on is installling the 1" tweeters. They can be a pain to mount right if u never have done them before.

Do u have a amp already?
