Angry Put in new door speakers....

god damn what a project. I didnt take pictures of my process but... I picked up the Infinity reference 2 way speakers at circuitcity. took the door panel off took one look at the speaker and seen there were no screws. so i just ripped out the stock speaker and all of the clips busted off that hold it on the door. So now i didnt know how to put the new ones it.

The screen covers that come with the speakers came in use. I drilled new holes in the sheet metal (the door). Put some sticky rubber on the door, popoed out the screen on the cover for the speakers, turned that upsidedown and placed the speaker over it. Just screwed it right into the door. Everything fit back perfect!. They sound pretty good too, better than stock.

hehe im in the middle of doing that..it took me few hours yesterday to get the rear speakers in which is a pain in the ***. And i got 2 the front panels off and all my wires ran for the front speakers and my amp. But it got to dark out so i stop.

And now i wake up today and its freaking raining. and i have no garage. But i got the alpines that have the adapter for hondas so i dont have no problems with attaching the speaker to the door.

glad you like em I got the same ones. I hope you put 1 inch spacers otherwise your window isn't gonna roll down. It's gonna hit the speaker.

So you screwed the speaker directly to the door panel? I have a plastic 1 inch spacer inbetween otherwise it sits too far back in the window path. But okay if yours is fine...

I have the pioneer 940mp deck with 40wx4rms @ 14v alpine amp (MRP F240)

i used the grill/screen that comes with the speakers for a spacer, and put rubber behind it.

I was concerned about depth, so I bought the shallow-mount infinities and mounted them on 3/4" MDF. The window has plenty of room-I should have got the normal (not shallow) references.

If you still have the gold mounting ring - take it to a high school and pay some kid $5 to cut out a 1/2" speaker spacer from some spare wood.

Mounting a speaker on metal/plastic is just asking for unwanted vibration/resonance.

And mounting it on wood that will get wet is asking for the wood to fall apart.

Good point. Remember to seal the spacer. I used some 3M stuff the guy at Home Depot liked for thick woods.

Haha...thick woods...

yep, mounting on wood is not that great in our cars. seems like a lot of water is getting into our doors. i took my speakers out recently because i'm going to build kick panels, and the 3/4" rings i made from MDF were rotted, both sides.
i know that metra makes some pre fab ones out of ABS plastic, my local shop sell them for like $9 a pair, worth looking into.

I used 1 inch metra (plastic) spacers for mine, screwed those on, and then put pieces of dynamat to seal around it. Ya not the greatest but it should work unless they start peeling off.

You all keep saying that you are having problems with the spacers getting wet. Mines been there for 3 yeasrs and still isn't wet. Guess it's all in how much time you take to do it right to keep it from getting wet.

Or how the car is built. When I opened mine, there was water everywhere or at least dampness. Has to do with humidity and temp changes too. Something that wouldn've taken years to rust in my old town will get rusty in a few days here.

Those of you that have had problems with water/dampness in the door, Have you removed the plastic liner that's in there? Just curious if that could be the issue. I know a lot of people are removing that to do sound deadening...

yes, but I have dynamat which seals alot better anyway. The water comes through the window seal in most cases.

Yeah but how does it get between the metal and plastic panel? Any water leaking into the door should be on the INSIDE between the two metal parts.

I live in NH, it rains for a good portion of the summer, and its slushy and snowy and shitty from like nov-may. Never had a problem with wet MDF spacers.

I removed mine, but it was pretty trashy and it's just about impossible to line the outer metal panel with deadening pads without removing it. I live in an arid environment, and there was A LOT of dust in my door, which should have been washed away if water got into the door.

My infinity speakers looked just fine other than some dirt after almost 3 years. The water didn't do any damage I don't think.
