Never used 1/4" wood before in an install. Anyone know one that's better than others?

Birch, Heart Pine. Those are the one's I use usually. I also paint or cover them in some manner.

MDF doesn't come 1/4" Though, or it would be my absolute 1st choice.

tell that to the quarter inch board in my garage

tempered masonite is kinda like MDF, I personally think its a bit stiffer. but both do exist in a 1/4 inch thickness. I guarantee it

Really? Well I've looked everywhere under the sun around here for 1/4" MDF. Two lumber yards told me they don't come that size. So I just assumed it was true. Anyway, Masonite was another consideration I've made.

i got my 1/4" mdf at home depot. the one i went to only carries it in 2'x4' sections.

Spider Pine with a few layers of laquer would look sexy imo.

definitely masonite. are you merely making trim around the baffle? as in, baffle is vinyled, then you cut a trim board like a border around the subwoofer, then use that as the starting panel to carpet the rest of the box?

if so, id use 1/2 inch MDF. gives it a little deeper look.

so whats the plan?

No. I've got an existing box already, I'm just making a cosmetic panel to hide the box and only show the subs. It would fit vertically in the trunk. I've got about 1/4" to work with.
