HU blinks on hard bumps

WTF is going on? I hit a hard bump and the HU lighting dies but the unit keeps playing...no XM interruption, no nothing, just a lack of lighting momentarily. Any ideas? I have to go in for an oil change tomorrow and I also have time in my day to go see my installer. BTW, the deck is a Premier Pioneer DEH-P8MP. Thanks all.

Sure. You have a short.

Maybe in:
the head unit itself (most likely)
the orange dimmer wire on your head unit's harness (unlikely)

is it a detachable face. Maybe the face bounces enough so it doesnt make a good connection

loose connection or short. This isn't a tough problem.

Solution 1. Just check your wiring and all your connection for a start.
Soultion 2. Don't hit bumps

My guess is poor connection somewhere... make sure the face is firmly pressed into the deck. I had 2 similar problems, one where my face wasn't clicked in properly and I would use a control on the right side of my deck and my deck would shut off. The other was just recently when I went over a bump it would quickly cut out then come back on, and I found out that was because the plug going into the factory harness wasn't secure (eventually came out altogether actually) and it was losing contact for that brief moment when I hit the bump.

i have a deh-2300 that would lose illuminattion and control, but would still stay on. the lady i bought the car from stated that the deck had been returned to best buy for the same issue. it's still under warranty, but to go with out a radio for two weeks just to have the problem return as it did from the first time it was sent in wasn't worth it. well, especially since i am an electronics tech anyway. turns out there were a couple of cold solder joints around the power connector on the mainboard. reflowed the solder with silver solder and viola, she's fixed. after seeing several post regarding the same symptoms, i can only attribute the failure to contamination on the main pcb during the solder bath.

what happened to quality control?

Yeah sounds like a loose connection. Just take the HU out and mess with the wires and see what one you mess with causes the loss. Then secure it better and bingo problem solved.
