Sub hitting for no reason??? Help?

Ok, I have a fairly new Rockfor 6002 amp (or 8002 can't remember) and a kenwood mp3 player 2-3 yrs old.

Now, every once and a while the sub hits (makes a deep noise inconsistent with the music. Some times it hits really loud, even when the volume is really low.

1. Any one experience this?

2. And is it likely a problem the the HU or the amp?

Mine was doing that for the last little bit. Turned out one of the RCA's coming out of the deck was loose and contacting metal every once in a while. So I taped it up good and since then no weird sub thumbs or rumbles.
