New Headunit wont fit Metra kit
So I got a new JVC KD-LH300 for Xmas and installed it Christmas day without a kit and later ordered the Metra kit that lets you keep the pocket. I just got in the kit today and the headunit wont fit through the opening of the kit. I am confused cuz I thought that all aftermarket headunits would fit these kits. Is there another kit out there for different sized headunits or am I just screwed and need to figure out how to fabricate a kit on my own so I dont have a big hole all around the headunit.
Try this.... make sure you rip off those side plastic brackets. Next, take the piece that had the side plastic brackets and put that on the front side of the dash where you took out the stock radio. Next, put in your JVC cd player.... (if there is a plastic ring that goes around the JVC's face plate and radio, take that off. It won't fit and is not needed.) Finally, take the piece from the metra kit that is odd shaped and put it in place. Wah La... an installed JVC radio.
I hope this helps!

I tried all that I took off the trim piece arounf the headunit and there is just no way for the head unit to fit in the hole of the kit. Unless I am not thinking right that the headunit should mount flush to the kits opening. The only way I guess it would work is if it is set back into the dash some.

Try snapping the kit on after everything is back in place. It should only be held on by 4 clips (2 per side). Should snap right on. If it still won't allow the faceplate to hinge (assuming it hinges), try sanding around the opening some with some fine grit paper (220 or higher, preferable around at least 400 grit). You should be able to sand it enough to make it fit, if it doesn't already. Just make sre you remove all of the pieces that are supposed to be removed (the perforated pieces).

I got it to work it just doest fit flush with the trim piece and and I cant use the rounded trim piece around the headunit. It looks ok its just kinda tough to detatch the face where it is sunk back a lil. Sanding wont help this is way too big. Everything fits in the piece with the 2 flaps fine it just wont come close to fittin through the trim piece. Its all good though its not a show car or anything I just wanted a cd player that would play mp3's. Thanks for the help.

Yeah my fiance works at Best Buy and I went and looked at their pocket and hated it. Is there anyway you can cut the bottom of that kit and just use the top piece to keep our pocket?

I don't know why that kit is not working, but american international also makes one that allows you to keep the stock pocket. I'll see if I can find a part number for you.
