my amp too powerful?
hey guys, i recently bought a punch amp.... p5002 2 channel amp. well i thinks it way over powering my p2 15 inch sub so would an infinity kappa perfect 12 be better or not? i just want something that will last me a really long time... my p2 keeps on getting too hot from my amp...

p5002:
125 W x 2 @ 4 Ohms RMS
250 W x 2 @ 2 Ohms RMS
500 W x 1 @ 4 Ohms Bridged RMS
p215s4:
Power handling(RMS) - 250 Watts
Power handling(Peak) - 500 Watts
Impedance - 4 Ohms
if your 15" p2 is s4.. 4ohms..
then you're giving it double the RMS wattage it needs, which is TOO MUCH, I always MATCH my RMS on subs and amps, my current setup I have a Punch 601S which is 600rms @ 4ohms bridged, wired up to 2x 300RMS Alpine subs, and I have no problems with it..

http://www.cardomain.com/item/INFPERFECT12VQ <<< this infinity perfect is 400rms, which is closer to the RMS of ur amp, but still not exact
if you want a 15" that is 500rms, http://www.hookedontronics.com/show_...ls.jsp?cid=978 << check this for $188.. dual 2ohm, wire it to 4ohm, which will be 500 rms from ur amp (bridged & wired @ 4ohms)

don't bridge the amp and turn that thing down. I had to do the same to my amp. it would get so hot it would shut off for a few. I loved the sound it put out but I want constant music not just 15 minutes at a time. and that amp you have now will last forever
You really can't have too much too much power. Yes, you can overpower a speaker, but just turn down your gains and you'l be fine. Headroom is a happy thing. What happens when you the sub gets hot? Is the amp hot? Are you playing it too loud? If it isn't loud enough for you, some new louder subs might be just what you need

i've hit my limit tho, mine can handle the entire 600 I have, but I cant handle it cause it rattles too much.. sometimes I wish I had a van or suv, with a ton of open area to have tons of bass and next to no rattling, more "baffle" or wutever u call tons of open air space
