Question gauge cluster fading

hm. i noticed a couple days after i got my car back from the dealer, that the area around the bottom of the tach & speedometer is really dim at night compared to the rest of the gauges. i think this is because of an LED light going out? the rest of the gauge is fine except for those parts, so i'm guessing it's just one led. no idea how to fix it really, and even though i bought that damn extended warranty, i bet it doesn't cover it. anyway, just curious how hard it would to replace an LED on the gauges, i figure i could find a dui or somethign about swapping clusters and go from there, just don't know how an led "plugs in" to the gauge cluster. any info would be appreciated.

Well if the have an 01-02 cluster, they are only lit with bulbs. So just take the cluster out and look for the screw-in bulb holders on the back. I think there's 5 total. If you have an 01, I have extra bulbs I can send you. The 02 is bigger and different.

I have an 01 2dr ex. I'd defiantely be interested in one of those bulbs. I haven't had the time to take the cluster out, this happened a couple days ago. But, I'll probably take it a part this weekend and check it out, hopefully it isn't too difficult, if it's just one bulb not lighting up i'll send you a pm or something about getting those bulbs.

haha, maybe when you have time, you should take out your cluster and screw back in the bulbs so it can be fix the "right" way.

Same thing happens with my brother's teg - we just haven't bothered to fix it, cause we don't live together anymore, plus the car smells funny. I figure I'll just get him a type R one for his bday.

hm. well, i got in the car last night and decided to slap the gauges a little and see if you guys are right. and you were. a couple hard taps and the light was back on. i guess i won't be needing a replacement after all, just have to tighten it up.
