The remote tends to not work in cold weather. I dont know if this is a problem with mine or a problem with the design of the remote. My solution: dont use the remote. Hope this helps.

Rep Power: 0 All remotes are like that. Extreme cold really f's w/ the batteries inside. Just like your car battery in the winter. It looses a lot of its capabilities. Especially when the batteries are going dead.
All you need to do is hold any button on the remote like the volume up or down, like maybe 10 seconds or so. This will cause the remote to "warm" the IR bulb in the remote. Once you do that once it should work like a champ. Similar to your car when its cold in the morning. The first start is tough, but after that it isn't an issue the rest of the day.
I live in upstate NY where it sometimes can get -20 below zero outside. I have had 6 difference HU's w/ remotes in my vehicles over the past 10 years, and they all behaved like this. You just can't f w/ mother nature ....

Rep Power: 314 check the angle which you use the remote. Ive noticed the pioneers dont like extreeme angles to use the remote coming from below the unit.
if your remote for your pioneer isnt working too well, try raising your arm and see if it works more reliably. Bummer that the radio in our cars sits so far tilted up, huh.

Soooooo awesome. i haven't even seen it in daylight it is so new. but yea i was bumpin it on the "Bass" mode or something. it was awesome. too bad my driver side tweeter is blown. not from this hu but like 4 months ago. now i just need a nice component set. i guess i can't say much now but the remote is nice and small. now i can just rest my arm on the armrest and play with a remote especially since i have an auto

Rep Power: 296 if u still want/need opinions on pioneer HUs... everyone I know has one... I have a 6400, my dad has a 1500, we had a pioneer HU in our old van (early 90s model) a friend of mine had a cheap one compairable to the 1500, and he's beaten it up since he could drive in 2001 and it still runs just fine.. another friend of mine has a mid range model, 3600? not sure its between 1500 and 6400.. prolly 3k-4k model # range, every pioneer I've heard has been good qual for the price, rarely skips, if at all, I think mine has skipped 2x since I've had my car (Nov 2003) and both times it was because of a huge pothole..
IMO all pioneers are worth it, but .. my next HU is prolly gonna be Alpine (if I can afford it, otherwise pioneer)
