hmm...id say no. ive got mp3 playback on my kenwood. what it means is when youre burning cd-r's you can go in and put mp3 files on the cd and play them through your headunit. whats the big deal you may ask? well, for one you can put a shitload of tracks on 1 cd. the most i ever put on one cd was 100 tracks, but i had a lot more space if i needed it. also it takes virtually no time to burn a large number of tracks on one cd.
All the MP3 part means is that if you copy a bunch of MP3s to a CD you can play them on there too. Wav files are essentially the same format that real cds use to make a true music cd. MP3s are compressed version of the files. The more the compressions the smaller the size, at the expense of sound quality. Genereally I use MP3s that are 320kbps in quality (about the best you can get... ).
Generally a cd holds 650MB to 700MB of information.
- wav files are about 30-40MB each (why most cds have about 15 songs max)
- 128kbps MP3s are 3-5MB each (holds about 130 songs)
- 320kbps MP3s are 8-12MB each (holds about 65 songs)
