battery relocation...
Is it legal to relocate the battery? Maybe Im wrong but Ive heard something about the battery cannot be relocated UNLESS you put it in a secure, non movable place
Not only did I hear its illegal but it can be dangerous if its moving around, so if its not illegal, just still make sure its been secured really well so it cant move around. Safety hazzard...
Good luck!

yeah what kind of idiot wouldnt bolt it down? it has to be vented as well but that shouldnt be a problem as there is a vent on the left side of the trunk

I don't know that I'd relocate a battery in the trunk though, maybe add a secondary battery. I know it'd work, but I don't want to have that long of a cable run to my charging system, cause there's more room for failure of the primary there.
you can try searching for my DIY, but it doesnt have every detail taken into account.
anyways, its pretty easy. you can find 4 gauge blocks at home depot in the woring section. its basically a steel block with a 4 gauge hole machined in it and a screw on teh side to clamp down on teh wire. you can use this to tie the stock wiring to a length of 4 gauge and run that to the trunk.
I suggest you put the battery as far forward as possible to get teh weight on the wheels rather than flopping behind, itll make your car handle better. upi can get plastic battery bins at places like kragens. you will want to bolt it to the floor. a proper vent will be a half inch to three quarter inch hole drilled into the battery compartment through the trunk with a tube to connect the box to the outside of the car. tube sticks into the battery compartment about a quarter inch, and outside the vehicle maybe 2-3 inches or so.
battery will just sit in teh box no problems, the lid strapped down will seal the box, as long as its tied to outside the vehicle it will be vented.
if your rear battery is sealed, you dont have to vent it for safety reasons, but youll still lose points at IASCA if its not vented, sealed or not.
you can also expect your car to crank a couple extra times I predict due to the added resistance of the wire leading up front causing a larger voltage drop. *shrug*
may I ask why you want to relocate the battery back there?

Normal lead acid car batteries vent hydrogen gas. The reason that they are vented to the outside when mounted in the trunk is to keep the gas from exploding.
If you are mounting a battery in the trunk, get an optima (non venting) or get an approved battery box.
The NHRA has those rules for a reason.

quick question guys. If I do decide to add another battery in my car how would I wire it to get power? I plan to keeep the stock battery and add one more in the trunk strickly for my audio. Do I just wire from my current battery going to the battery in the trunk?
youll want a relay or diode isolator between the positive run from the front to rear battery.
if you do the custom CAI and have the "stock" battery in the back (if you really relocate, id use a redtop) then itll be REAL easy to add a second battery, but youll still want that isolator. if they are identical batteries, you technically dont need the isolator, but you have to make sure the battties are set up to do what you want.
to keep the car in good condition, a simple isolator of either kind will be sufficient. but make sure that your isolation is sufficient for what you want the *isolation* to do, too.
for example, adding an isolator will be just fine between the stock battery up front and a battery in the rear. but that does absolutely nothing for you if you still turn the key to turn on the radio, linking both batteries, running them dead, you still cant start the car!
but if you just want to increase the time of playing with the car off, and never ever run them dead anyways, then youd be fine. etc.
make sure you know what kind of PERFORMANCE you want, then plan how the wiring goes.
chances are, your car already has the wiring needed to add a second battery. when you put it in the trunk, you just use your audio wiring. if you have a D-block, just run some 4 gauge from the positive lead of the rear battery to the D-block and ground it to the chassis. dont forget that regulator!

realistically, your performance is going to suffer much more putting your main battery in the trunk than any benefit from any CAI will ever get you. FYI.
much less adding a second battery in the trunk, keeping hte main up front.
much less two batteries in the trunk, one main and one audio.
