Lost my link. Fiberglassing to ABS Plastics
Lost my link. Fiberglassing to ABS Plastics
I had a link to a fiberglass product that worked particularly well to ABS Plastic. I've lost it. I tried searching for it again, no luck. Anyone had good success bonding fiberglass to ABS Plastics? If so, what did you use?
I'd like to know as well. I'm working on a gauge cluster and I need to make modifications and fill it. I was thinking fiberglass but I don't know how much the hardener will melt the ABS.
I'm going to have to give you some Rep points for asking this

The trick Ive always used was drilling holes into the plastic so that the Fiber Glass sticks on both sides (Alpine uses this technique). Ive never had a problem.

The MEKP accelerant mixed with the resin does tend to get a little warm. I seriously doubt it's enough to actually melt the plastic. Maybe warp it, but not melt it. I'm sure you can find what you're looking for here j187:

I knew about that but wasn't sure how well it worked. How many holes are we talking?
Pop, thanks for the link. I've been meaning to try out SP.
good to know. The more I think about it, I'm thinking of trying something new. Bondoglass. I think it might be a lot easier to form to mold for this particular profect. Anyone work with BondGlass before?

I don't really like it that much. It's about the same consistency as mayonaise with hair in it. I'd use weave for a few layers then go over it with a couple of layers or dynalite (or another liteweight body filler).
kitty hair would require holes too.
you can just scuff the CRAP out of the plastic. but I wouldnt do that if you plan to paint.
I dont know if you really already have the cloth stretched or not. but lets pretend that you do.
id sure hate to dissasemble everything just to drill holes!
but you can just resin your cloth, no worries about adherrance. THEN drill holes in plastic (but not your hardedned cloth!) and fill with kittyhair.
strength of holes drilled (make sure they are large holes) without dissasembling your cloth.
