custom sub box install!
Hey guys last night when I got home from work I had the sudden urge to do something to my car. I have been thinking about making that custom sub box that in the DIY section here on the site. I think it looks tight but sorta kills your whole trunk space being that you cant have anything on top of the subs or anything that would roll around crushing the sub.
what i DID do was put a regular small, sealed box in the spare tire well and then cut the cardboard/carpet to fit over it. from the false floor - the box sticks up about 4-5 inches so that you still can still put stuff around it without it being on top of the sub.
when it was all said and done it was dark out so i couldn't really see how straight the cuts/fits were.
This morning i looked at it and it looks soo professional! man, i really wish i had a digi cam so you guys could see.
I was just wondering if anybody else done this or seen it done anywhere???
btw - anybody know of a good CHEAP digi cam?? i wanna post pics of my car already!

^thats just more work and i think the way i have it now looks better than just having a sub in the floor of your trunk. its raised above the carpet to make it stand out more. i dunno - i guess to each his own
You could still do the custom sub box.. just build some sort of speaker covers to go over it.. or build something like the JL Audio Stealth Boxes. Then you really wouldn't have to worry about anything hitting your sub(s).
But if it makes you happy, that's all that matters..
I think walmart sells some digital cams for $50 or something but they're like.. 0.5megapixels or something so your pictures are gonna look like @$$.

Well, if you're concerned about your sub getting damaged from stuff rolling around in the trunk, get something such as the JL grilles or a material of the like to make a grille out of to keep it protected.
Popcornplaya, I don't know why but I didn't even think of grilles.. Anyone ever play croquet? (spelling?) That one game where you use wooden mallets to hit ***** underneath these white arches? When I made my kick panels, I fabricated my own speaker grills out of those arches.. just cut them to fit, sanded them down, primered, and painted them.. so that's an idea if you have an old set in the ol' garage.. otherwise I'm sure you can come up something. Be creative or I think the grilles you can buy from Kicker are pretty sweet.. although if you're not running a kicker sub and someone sees it, they might think you're an idiot..

i got an audiobahn grill but i dunno - i had a polk momo on there with a grill but somehow it still got punched so i had to go and get the audiobahn
i suppose paying for high quality subs is out of the question then? get a set of Boston Acoustics 12's
You'll pay, but you can stand on the cone without damaging it, or punch the center without damaging.

what do you mean high quality subs are out of the question?

Thats what im running. I know its still audiobahn, but 700 watts RMS, 1400 peak, and 179.99 - its not the BEST, but it does the job very well.
