Installing Compenents..P.I.T.A.....

Just ventured to a new project.. I replaced my door speakers with components and replaced the factory 6x9's.....Replaced all the factory $hit with Soundstream componenets and 6x9's.. Well first off its a p.i.t.a. to take off the damn rear deck to get to the rear speakers...Pretty much had to remove all the rear panels...Then these big *** speakers I installed have a massive magnet which now hits on the rods inside the trunk that suspend the trunk...Damn #1......Then I remove the door panels (easy did it b4).. well behold Damn #2 the speakers in the doors are not screwed in and have some sort of metal clips holding a big *** plastic housing.. So now I still need to make some spacers for the new speakers to make up for the plastic housing or the speakers wont clear..Damn #3 is coming after work when I go home and try and make some damn spacers for this thing... Sorry for the long post but just had to vent...

Ha ha welcome to the wonderful world of aftermarket speakers. Just joshin ya man, I had the same problems as you did. My first set of front components installed badly cause I made a spacer out of the original speaker housing in the doors. I hear ya on the crappy rear deck removal too. Oh and I chipped my rear window tint when I was installing my new rear speakers.

yep - Honda certainly doesn't make ICE installation in Civics very easy - Watch your basket diameter and magnet depth with your doors. There's a gas strut mod you could do for your trunk to get around the rod issue. Reassemble that back panel carefully as well - account for all the white plugs or you're going to get rattle.....

Yeah I had to do the trunk shocks mod myself. About 50x easier than installing the speakers that necessitated the mod.

luckily my Boston NX-97's have neodynium magnets which are very small, so I didn't encounter that problem. The only negative to the mod I can see is that you have another maintenance item to replace when the gas charge in the shocks runs out.

Well I finally got them all installed.. It sound alot better... Had to make wooden rings to get the speakers to fit in the doors..Then had to trim the plastic inside the door panel to get the panel to snap back in...As for the rear yeah I already thought about the strut mod so thats next on my list...

I used something like that to do my speakers:

Since they were plastic I didn't feel confident just drilling in and popping on so I wrapped the outside in some B-quiet. As well, hard plastic against metal worried me (rattles?) so I took some foam tape and put it on the edges of the plastic rings that would contact the door.

the honda sap adapter is for your door speakers. the universal one is so you can change the 6x9's in your rear deck to 6 1/2's.
