The warranty genreally is a short term warranty. Usually 90 days or so, and is honored by the merchant as opposed to the manufacturer. Personally, I'd save the extra dollars up and buy new, but that's just me. You find a refurb in dash dvd unit or something? Search around, there's bound to be a deal on a new one somewhere.

Most refurb products I've owned worked well. Generally the quality is as good as brand new as they have been back to the factory and repaired and individually inspected. If your product is going to fail, it most likely will within the allotted warranty period, so if you decide to, I say go for it.

I dunno, I have always had bad luck with refurb stuff. My dad too, and I guess has made me believe that once something breaks, it will never be the same.

When I worked at Alpine all I did was buy refurbished stuff for 2 reasons:

1. The stuff was a lot cheaper!

2. When Alpine refurbished something the whole thing was checked and made sure it wouldnt fail again. The way I see it all the problems have been fixed and shouldnt fail again.

I had a b-stock Pioneer low model CD player in the past. Worked great, and lasted quite a while. Definately worth the cheap price I got it for.

Otherwise, I tend to stay away from refurbished items. I have also had some subpar goods, and always regreted the money I wasted on it.
