aftermarket head unit bezel

Noob question...Here is a picture of the mounting kit from crutchfield for a aftermarket HU in a 2004 civic coupe. Do you really have to replace the whole piece with the storage pocket? The stock one has a door over it, I would like to keep this. Would I be able to do the install and just use the HU trim ring, but keep the storage pocket bezel stock? Please post pics of your HU's installed so I can see how others have done it.

there are actaully several different types of install kits...Metra makes 3 versions if i remember correctly....the one you have shown, one that has a cutout for an EQ, and the one that most people want which is the top piece only - that way you keep your stock pocket...keep looking...other stores and stereo shops carry just the top piece kit. I bought mine from a local stereo shop. They were actually the third store i checked out...the first two only carried the one you have pictured

Yea when i had my headunit installed by bestbuy they gave me that crappy one ^^^. Later i found the metra one that lets you use the pocket w. door. I would definilty suggest tryin to keep it.

The correct kit to keep the stock pocket w/little door is the Metra #99-7897, which is the same one that tbaleno posted.

The metra kit you guys show is exactly what I'm looking for. One thing though...if you look at Megahurtz install you can see a noticeable gap around the head unit. Is there another trim piece to fix this. Or is that going to vary depending on HU?

The gap is nothing... the HU itself is very tight, but the face is slightly smaller so it leaves a small gap, but it's barely anything

I don't think it looks bad, but don't you think it would be nice to cover the small gap around the face? So why do they even make the kit with the pocket? Why would you want to replace more than just the top section?

can't put any trim in there, the fit IS quite tight, my faceplate release button is in the top left corner and it's really hard to push to get the face off

not all 7th gens have the pocket

some have 2 units

some i dont know waht they have, maybe a blank panel or maybe a stock pocket without cover

I may switch mine back to the stock bezel - the aftermarket I have tends to vibrate a bit at times which makes it annoying...

They should make a full size kit that includes the pocket or include a din sized accessory with a pocket with a door then you can just use the double din kit and the pocket accessory

This post would have been really handy last week before I ordered the kit with the pocket (no door). I wonder if I can cut and dremel the bezel once it comes...

sell the kit or return it and get the right one, dremeling it will probably make it end up looking all horrible and uneven unless you are skilled with it

I have that one you posted. The pocket isn't deep enough for an entire CD to fit in. You have about 3/4" of the CD hanging out.

Anybody else have pics of their installs using the Metra kit? I would like to see a couple more examples. I'm still not completely convinced that their isn't a larger than acceptable gap between the HU and the bezel.

The colors don't match because my console seems to change colors depending on the lighting conditions.
