ICE Report Card (A thru F)
- Alpine 9831 Headunit
- Infinity Reference 6000cs front components 90W RMS@4ohms
- MB Quart PCE 164 Midbass driver system for rear deck 60W RMS
- Amp Kenwood KAC-8401 60x4 @4ohms
Setup inspired by this article on the web. I wanted to do all MB Quart but not many speakers will fit the front door housing without modification; crutchfield confirmed the stock speaker housing was 1.98"!! But the Infinity was the best out of the ones that could fit and came in a mount depth of 1.937". Kenwoods came in at 1.936. I tried rockford and kenwood 605 myself and not a fit. but the Reference 6000cs should be ok
What do you guys think of the above setup? I am not going to add a sub so i need to get all my sounds from these 4 speakers and two tweeters. I am hoping the sound will be great. Any feedback is appreciated.

FWIW modification is not hard. You can add a 1"+ spacer pretty easily, which gives you are lot more options. For some speakers (depending on the magnet size) you may also need to cut the metal, which is not hard if you have a dremel tool or can borrow one.

I really dont want to put spacers or modify the hole. What speaker will fit without modification and sound good with my amp and rear mb quarts?

As far as modification, you can actually buy spacer rings pre-made if you don't wan't to make them out of MDF, opens up your options immensly

AFAIK pretty much ANY aftermarket speaker requires a spacer. There is virtually no mounting depth available without one, and every aftermarket speaker install I've seen in a 01-04 Civic uses them, so IMO there is no other option. We are not talking about modifying the car, you simply snap a spacer in and screw the speaker into the spacer... no big deal.

Well because of the odd shape of the hole, you might want to consider a spacer anyway, as having that open space at the bottom where the hole is square-ish might have a negative effect on the sound quality of your speaker.

What year is your car? Is it the same as the 2004 civic sedan mounting spec? If you use a space was there any issue getting the door panel back on?

THose infities will still need a spacer. Most baskets dont clear the hole

The door metal is the same, but I have an 02 coupe.
There is about a 1/4" gap on the very bottom of the door, however you dont see it or notice it at all unless you run your fingers along the bottom of the panel
