sub with stock deck?
sub with stock deck?
This may be a dumb question, but bear in mind that I don't know much about car audio. I'd just like to know if you could hook up a sub to a stock 01' cd deck. I'm only asking, cuz I prefer the way the stock one looks as opposed to aftermarket ones which often tend to look out of place because they don't blend in with the dash.

yes you can.. i have 2 10"s hooked up to my stock deck... dont ask me about wiring and stuff cuz my dad basically did all that for me... i think we routed the wires going to the back speakers through the amp and subs and stuff, and then to the rear speakers.. or something like that...
Thanks man, thats all I need to know. My buddy knows everything there is to know about car audio, so he can help me. How does it sound with the amp and subs? Is it a lot louder with the amp?

i'd say its an improvement.. i can bump my system when i want to... the way my setup is, the amp also affects the rear speakers.. or so my dad said...

You can hook an amp to your stock deck but you will have to use either a line level converotr an amp with high level inputs.
Why not replace the POS stocker?

I had that setup for a while
Had my stock deck, and hooked my subs up to the rear speakers. I used a switch under the steering wheel to turn the amp on. Didnt sound bad, but with the aftermarket deck, its MUCH better.
Ya just got splice into the rear speakers and connect those to the subs with some wire. Words of advice, find a good ground and secure it well

That being said, obviously you see your answers above here that you can do it with a Line level converter. But I did want to suggest to you if you are interested in an aftermarket HU, Apline's 98-- line has a couple of models with 512 different illumination settings, like the 9831-9833-9835. The 9833 is an excellent match all around, buttons and display to the civic dash. Hey! Look At Me!! I'm a Supporting Member!!

sometimes stock deck and speakers are a bad idea - the stock deck might not supply enough wattage to the aftermarket speakers and/or too much distortion...caused one of my rears to blow while still on the stock deck. Replacing stock deck tomorrow

that was what i had as my very first setup.... i had the stock deck, speakers and a crappy 10" sony sub... which totally sucked... but anyway....
i thought it was terrible.... the sub would drown out EVERYTHING else... all i would hear was sub.... so i ended up buying a deck and front speakers.... made a world of difference... then an amp for the front speakers.... ugh... and thatz how it all started.

Not wanting to spend the money on a new HU isn't really a good reason to use a LLC. A good reason would be if you had an Audi A4 where nearly the entire dash console is made up of the headunit and its bright red lights. It might look pretty dumb if you put in an aftermarket din-sized unit. Thats a good reason for the LLC. The ugly radio in the 7th gens has to go!
