Actually, Pioneer P7600 or P8600
Sorry to ***** it up with so many posts about this.
So the 7600 is about $100 less (well, $200 less retail). It seems to do everything the 8600 does except:
1. Have a color display
2. Have the time setting stuff to delay speakers or whatever so all the sound hits you at the same time
3. It has a 3 band EQ instead of 13
4. Has 2.2V outputs instead of 4, but I only have an amp for my sub so I don't care.
So I'm trying to decide if those extra features are worth $100 to me.
I don't really care about the display. I hear the 7600's monochrome display is actually easier to read than the 8600's.
Does the time speaker adjustment really make a big difference?
But I would LOVE a 13 band EQ

you could save the $100... then decide you don't like the deck so much... sell it for a loss, and then buyy the better deck
or you could buy the better one and never look back (awww, i wish i got a smaller EQ... that won't happen).

I recently had the same dilemma and ended up deciding on the 7600. My reasons were:
1. The color screen is only a novelty that I won't care about a week after I buy it
2. I don't really need a lot of EQ bands because my speakers remain stock so that's really what limits my sound quality. (The 7600 actually has some decent tweaks beyond the EQ. Check out the online manual.)
3. I'm only running a sub amp so the preout voltage doesn't concern me too much
I just basically came to the same conclusion as you, that they do almost the same thing.

^ It does have a legit subwoofer volume control tho, right? Cuz when I was looking at the 8600 in the store it just kind of looked like you could adjust some sub frequencies, but I'm not sure that's exactly the same as volume in the sense of "power output to the subwoofer." But then again it says "sub preout" so maybe it has one. Can you explain please? How does the sub control work. Thanks.

whats $100 bucks for a really nice display, time correction, 4v preouts and a good eq? I'd pay 100 bucks for time correction alone in a second
Sometimes, I can see right through myself ...

It DOES have a sub preout.
I'm asking if there's a volume control.
I don't want to control it using the volume control on my amp cuz then I'd have to go in the trunk every time I want to change it.
Does the time correction make a big difference? I'm very curious about this feature. Sound travels fast enough that I wouldn't think a few feet of extra distance would make much difference.

Almost 10k posts and your worried about being a post ***** .... lol
Any Pioneer decks I have seen that have sub outputs have the capability to:
Sub: On / Off
Sub Phase: 0 / 180
Sub level: +6 to -6
Sub Freq: 50Hz / 80Hz / 125Hz
My Pioneer 7000 and later my 7400 both had all these features. I'd assume the 7600 does too.

From Crutchfield:
So you have all the typical Pioneer sub controls .....
Subwoofer/Non-fading Preouts: In addition to the front and rear preamp outputs, there is one set of outputs that may be set for "subwoofer" or "non-fading" output. When set to "non-fading", the signal is full range and the output level is user selectable from -6 to +6. When set to "subwoofer", the outputs are non-fading, and they may be set for normal or reverse phase, 50Hz/80Hz/125Hz low-pass output, and the level is user selectable from -6 to +6.

Thanks. I was just worried because I didn't see a sub level adjustment when I was at the store. I asked the guy and he showed me the frequency changing thing, but I specifically want a sub level control as well. But if it's got both, that's even better
Today I'm going to Tweeter to compare the 7600 and the 8600.
Thanks for the help, guys.
Oh, if anyone has any recommendations I might have overlooked that fall around these prices ($200-300 online), please let me know.
Thanks.

Sometimes some of the settings are only available in menus when the radio is off. Like where you set the clock and stuff. That in turn can change menu options that are available when the radio is on. I think you specify sub or non-fading rcas in the menu when the radio is off. Then you get the options to set the levels when the radio is on.

The crossover for the sub preout has frequency and amplitude adjustment.
There is also an adjustable high pass filter for the speaker outputs and front/rear preouts.
