alex053 will become famous soon enough
wow...distributor prices vs employee cost. i think i win

i worked for rockford corp and for mitek corp.
i wont be talking about how much i get them for cause that would ruin how much i can sell them for. but i get them less that dealer cost by hundreds and dealer cost is less that distributor cost.

anyways my best friend has one set of qsd's that were sitting in his closet..still sealed with quart stickers for $400.

good luck with that man....
any attempts to protect that tweeter are gonna be with some decently complicated custom work if you dont want to ruin the off axis response.

but i have a hint, remember those bar grills?

I have an idea for a grill you can make but it would be hard as hell... **** i can't even explain it. But it would look cool, trust me on that.

Grills suck for SQ though unless they are perfectly acousticly transparent (hey look, I know some SQ terms, SPL hasn't ruined me after all), which is hard to do.

Yeah, i was thinking about something like that...similiar to lil allen wrenges going across the top...my main concern is not the foot stepping on the tweeter (because I think they are ok from that), but more about the dirt that falls of of a foot into the tweeter...will dirt and debris reall affect the tweeter?

hmmm...

Not really unless a big hard chunk gets like stuck in there or something.

You should use ACTUAL allen wrenches to make grills with, I think that would be super trick looking, especially if you used different sizes and lengths

Besides unless you get a fairly tight grill it won't stop dirt anyway

grill cloth is 100% transparent
you could use both, just be sure not to inset the tweeter at all or youll lose off axis dispersion

How could anything completely covering the entire speaker be 100% acoustically transparent?

So basically a grill would be completely useless, and may even cause more problems, because it would be harder to get the dirt out that gets in.

You could use a good grill cloth for daily driving so NO dirt gets in and take the grills out for SQ competition (if you compete) so you have no issues with transperency of the grills. If you don't compete you can try making a set of grills anyway, and if you don't like them, keep them off unless you will want them on at a certain time. I mean all week to work and back you don't need them on cuz it's just you but come Friday night when your shitfaced buddies decide to play speaker football you might want them on.

I would imagine that Ti Elites don't come with grills, if you need any advice on them let me know I can get you some info directly from the horses mouth (or ***, whichever suits your fancy).
