Factory fitted Charging Electrics? Tow Bar????

The objective is to put a gel battery in the trunk.
The output must not be more than 12VDC +/- a few tenths, and must be isolated.
Need help finding the proper place to connect this battery in our cars. Fitted in a 02 coupe.

More info:

"i use the factory fitted charging electrics in my car - im pretty sure all cars have them - to charge it up using a $15 split charge relay. the charging electrics go all the way from the alternator to the back of the car and would normally connect up to a tow bar if one was fitted, their role is to charge a caravan battery while you're towing it.

the normal procedure is for the charging electrics to only get power once the car battery is fully charged, it gets priority, it means these electrics are fully isolated and switched off during and for a short time after cranking, so, no voltage spike. .... all it sees is a smooth constant 12V, probably going up a few tenths of a volt more when the charge power eventually comes in."

youd need a voltage regultor for it. in essence i gigantic zener diode. why a perfect 12 volt source?

plenty of people do that, I'm sure it's designed to operated between say 10-16 volts, not 12.00000000 volts

A standard battery when fully charged will be about 12.66 volts and that's more than a few points +/- right there. When your car is running it will be between 13.9-14.1, so thats WAY more than a few points +/-.

Lud is right, the way to get a perfect 12.0 source is a voltage regulator, but there is no point, you shouldn't need it...

I know a guy who I believe works for a company that makes carputer product, and he also happens to have a carputer installed, I will hit him up for some information and see what he says

Thanks for the responses but I'm afraid its possible that some on this thread may have misunderstood my original question. What I'm really asking is:

Where are the factory fitted charging electrics in our civics??
Do we even have them in our cars?

Please let me rephrase my original post: http://www.7thgencivic.com/forums/sh...32&postcount=1

Factory Fitted Charging Electrics:
--------------------------------

Apparantly, in theory, the circuit is isolated.

Not only is it isolated, it stays off during crank, for a few seconds after crank too.

The stock battery takes priority when charging, and only kicks in the gel battery once the stock battery is fully charged.

Evidently the gel battery only goes up a few tenths when recharging because of the isolated circuit.

Take a battery, hook up some 12v gear, and throw it in the trunk. Now you got stable power.

I only want to recharge this thing once it's empty... thus, the reason for this post.

Megahurtz, apparantly in some cars, when the car gets towed, the tow truck hooks up a "tow bar" to the "charging electrics" (alternator to rear wheels) in some cars.....This charges the Battery from the rear wheels while it's being towed = free energy.

If it actually is an isolated circuit, we can use it to charge a spare battery in the trunk without it running @14VDC.

Since the second battery is isolated , it will only output 12VDC - constant = NO Power Spikes

So you are saying there is an alternator on the rear wheels basically?

Why would that be there and not get used? Is that maybe a method used for charging Hybrids?

I think you have some misinformation on this issue, but it sounds intriguing.

Might be misinformation, might not be...
I don't know.
That's why I asked.
Since no one has heard of it,...
I'll keep looking until I find someone who has heard of it.

Maybe call a few tow truck drivers....
