who is opie and anthony? i heard a few people mention that when they were in the shop looking for sat radio.
anyways, i'm getting sirius, and one of these plug and play units for the car and home : http://www.clarion.com/usa/products/Sirius/CALYPSO.html

really there line up hasnt changed much there only offering opie and anthony and streaming online play with there subscription with there new pricing. and sirius has howard stern and way more sports. they also have way better rap and r and b channels
and on top of that sirius will have video coming out for about an additional 3.99 a month and they also haave the first totally portable sattelite radio/mp3 player all in one unit. due out in a few months.

i would strongly suggest staying away from sirius.
the company is losing money, and rate increases have been rumored for a while. (because they have to pay howard stern somehow) stern is getting paid 100 million a year. with sirius's current 1 million subscribers, thats about 156 million dollars in revenue per year. it doesn't leave much room for growth.xm has about 3 million subscribers, and they are not making dumb financial decisions, like hiring stern, for example. in the beginning of 2004, xm had 1 million subscribers, sirius had 300,000. at the beginning of this year, xm had just reached 3.0 million, and sirius had just signed up their 1 millionth subscriber. this does kinda say that the industry is growing as a whole, with xm tripling its size in one of four years of existance. in fact, xm has over 3.5 million subscribers, that was in the beginning of february.
usually in a new industry like sat radio, it takes a few years, but then eventually one medium is chosen over the other. and its looking like xm is going to be the chosen one.
and as for that clarion unit you are getting, xm has the delphi skyfi2, for 169.99 with car kit(home kit is another 70), and you can pause and replay live radio, kinda like tivo for your radio. not to mention the price.
also, look at xm's receiver lineup. notice how almost all units are made by one company, which is delphi (they make a lot of car electronics). xm does research and development of their equipment in house. with sirius, all of their units are made by different companies.
you make the call, but i would honestly tell you to go with xm. oh and i dont work for xm, btw.
delphi skyfi2 at bestbuy
delphi xm roady2 (comes with car kit, home kit is 40 dollars). I have 3 of these.

as for sat video, xm and sirius have been developing it for about the same time, but sirius looks like they are going to get it out to the market first. if you research, xm has announced it also in a press release.
about that sat radio/mp3 player, the catch with that thing is that you have to record the programs at home, then take it with you. congrats to sirius for reinventing the tape recorder.
xm has the myfi, which is the first fully portable live-programming sat radio unit. and pioneer and tao have xm2go units coming out in april. Thread Starter

Sirius has also been 12.95 since their launch. XM is now raising to 12.95? Coincidence? I dunno.

the raate increase will be if you add there streaming video. its not just an increase, and also sirius said that they only need like 25% of howards listners to signup to break even with the contract they signed with him , and both companies are equally in debt no one is doing better, and just cause xm has more costumers means nothing because sirius has charged that same 13 dollar rate so they really made about the same a xm cause they were only charging 10.
and by the way the new sirius mp3 player just has a sd card slot that you can put music on so its just like an mp3 player except it has revmoveable memory. and that unit still has the playback feature like the myfi. SO it is cool and works like a normal mp3 player, im nopt sure were you get your info.
also sirius is getting nascar also which is a HUGE deal because alot of people listen to nascar, and yes people do listen to baseball but if they cant be home to watch any game they can catch it on sirius, football hockey or most basketball.

one other thing all you have to do is get a sirius lifetime subscription for 500dollars and you will never have to worry about a rate increase!!!!
BAM now thats a deal
considering you can have a MP3 player satellite radio player (not tape recorder)
for life for only a flat fee forever.

no! that pays for a lifetime because, what if your unit was defective or stolen? they dont make you pay another 500 dollars. i know this for a fact.
and the sirius xact unit records the music just like the myfi but STILL has live satellite radio just like all the others, learn to read things correctl.
that unit is exactly like a myfi but with a mp3 player
it doesnt only record .

Subscribe for the lifetime of your radio! Yes really, we're not kidding. Pay $499.99 once, forget about bills altogether, and enjoy SIRIUS for a long, long time to come. (Offer ends June 30, 2005.)
i have had them both and they both blow hard! Especially Sirius because...its way too long of a story for me to tell, but to make it short, they kept $278 of mine when they had no business keeping it in the first place for 3 months and 6 days!

I have XM on my Premier 880. I thought that when I got it, I would stop buying cd's. But I still buy cd's and I don't listen to it as much as I used to. You wouldn't go wrong getting either one of them, but if you buy a lot of cd's, don't even bother with it.
I got sirius about 3 wks ago, I hooked the sportster reciever into the aux input on the back of my deck, even though the deck was sirius ready i figured it a better deal to have a unit I could bring into the house also, plus I can take the entire setup out in about 2 minuets if I need to put it in someone elses car, Deff worth the $$$, between sat radio and my Mp3 player I dont carry around or buy CDs anymore...

I am waking up my old thread. About a week in and a half ago I bought the Clarion-Sirius interface. Yet to install it. But about a week ago, went to Best Buy, and they had the Roady2 on sale for 17.99. With a 5 dollar rewards zone cert, made for a good deal. they also had a coupon there for free activation. So I now have XM, and Sirius on the way. In the week and half, I have had XM, I have only tuned to FM twice, and that is just to see if the radio stations I work for, were still on the air. Yes, I work in the radio biz, and have satellite radio. The content on XM is great, and hope to say the same thing about Sirius in the coming days. Driving around, not hearing commericals, and stuff I haven't heard in ages, is a great thing. I suggest people really check out either service.
kthx.
