If they come with surface mount hardware you can use that and surface mount the tweeters either on your sail panels or dash.
If they come with flush mount hardware, you can flush mount them wherever you like as well, either in the sail panel, door panel, or dash if you want to go a little more complex on the install

The sound will project up.
A good set of kick panels will make u think the sound is coming from the center of the dash
Do NOT buy the stock tweeters, they are crap. Buy the stock tweeter pods (sail panels designed for tweeters) and put aftermarket tweeters in them. You can get a component set and put the 6.5" woofer in the door and the tweeter in the sail panel.
Kicks are a lot better though, you get a much much better sound out of them

Yeah the EX sail panels look real nice
If you want better quality sound though, I say mount them real low, right by your woofers and aim them up towards the center of the dash

the sail panels are good ... if you wanna try something different try mounting them in the center dash vents .... one of my friends did that with his dakota and it sounds crazy wicked ... plus he got extra pounds in a car show for that

I just got some separate intinity tweeters and did a surface mount. Looks pretty clean and brings up the sound stage.
Yeah they angle away from you, but it sounds really nice without being harsh.

I like it when they are not angled right at you, it helps the speakers to not be localized, as long as they fire into a good spot in the dash that is perfect

that actually depends on the driver's on and off axis performance. some tweeters are designed to be aimed right at you, some are designed to be aimed away from you. for actual directionality of stuff, midrange is infinitely more important in creating a proper soundstage.

I'm a noob when it comes to component speakers. I want to get some and put the tweeters in the stock EX pods. Do they usually take much modification to make them fit? They are 1" tweeters. Not sure what size the stock ones are. Also, what do the manufacturers mean when they say they inlclude a surface and flush mount kit? I realize its the type of mounting, but what exactly is in this "kit" they are describing.
1" will work just fine
The "kit" includes plasticware that allows you to mount them in a pod that you mount on the surface (it will stick out) or flush mount means the plastic pod with tweeter installed would sit in a cut out just under the pod size.

It's easy to install on the empty panel. I drilled one hole and used a screwdriver. The rest is running wires to the deck or amp. Sounds very good.
