Stock HU
Hi, I'm about to install my amp and subs with my stock HU on a 04. I've read the DIY and it seems really easy. But I couldn't find any info on how to get to the back of the HU to connect the remote turn on wire and speaker wires. Can anyone show me how to do this? Thanks!
the easiest way to connect the subs are to splice the rear spaker wires aond connect those to the speaker level inputs on the amps. For the turn on lead, you can try get into the back, or more easily, just connect it to the cigarette adapter wire.
either way you can see from this DIY.

i connected my remote to a fuse under the steering column. its basically trial and error until you find the right one that turns the amp off when the car is off. i think its the easiest way.

Oh wait, I just checked and my 04 doesn't look like the one in the DIY. It's too dark out right now, I'll try to get a picture of what it looks like tommorow. Has anyone removed the stock HU on a 04?

1) Remove trim ring around shifter, open cup holder and stick finger in slot under larger shifter surround. Lift up with necessary force. Stiff at first but does come up if you try hard enough.
2) Remove screws near #2 circles which will be exposed upon detaching or removing large shifter surround
3) Pull horseshoe shaped piece housing cig lighter and delete panels out from sides as shown as #3
4) Pull horseshoe shaped piece forward, unplug cigarette lighter and remove it and place it aside.
5) Using 8mm socket or Phillips bit in ratchet or small Phillips screwdriver, remove 2 screws high in the dash now accessible upon removable of horseshoe piece.
6) (The tricky part to explain) You probably noticed a metal bar, about 1.5" wide and 5" long which had those 2 screws in it. Above it, sitting right on top of it, is another metal bar. You need to put your fingers behind (both hands) and feel where the top bar is. This bar is attached to the large piece that has the deck and climate controls. You need to push it UP and OUT. There are no more screws to remove at this point, just push up and out. You can look at the bottom of the deck/climate control bezel move out slightly to help you guide it out better. Remove various molex's and your deck is free!!! See note on lost clips below...
Process is the exact opposite to put the deck back in, just take note of how it came apart.
NOTE 1: Be careful not to lose the clips, they fall off easily. If you lose them, check for the top ones beside the a/c ducts, or you can check for the others by taking off 2 clips on the front of the center console on either side towards the footwell. Push the center in and pull the panel at the bottom to pop the clip out. Smack the sides of the console or stick a magnet up there to try nad find the clips. Doesn't always work but I've found a couple clips there before...
NOTE 2: If you absolutely CANNOT find them, you can take 1 or 2 or even 3 clips from the black cover under the dash on the passenger side. You can get up to 3 clips by taking the piece right out. You will never notice it's gone. You can also get 2 more of these clips by taking 2 out of the horseshoe shaped piece containing the cigarette lighter. If you are going to use these ones, use the 2 that are more towards the front of the console. If you STILL need more, take them off of the front of the same piece, on either side of where the cig lighters is.
NOTE 3: Those do not substitute actually having the clips, so if you lose them, buy more!!! Borrowing is just a temporary subsitute so you dont have to take the deck back out (and lose more clips) to replace them later on. They are cheap online or from Honda, so don't be stingy!!
poiuytrewq <-- keyword so I can find this post later (now that's thinkin
)Ops: Can you put this in a topic and either sticky it or put it in the DIY section as an updated DIY? The DIY there is kind of out dated, with the dash being slightly different in 03-04, and especially with LX/EX/Si (Canada).
Enjoy
I think this is only the third or fourth time I've typed out a whole deck install DIY, I hope it's the last

OK, I was finally able to get that huge gray piece out by pulling while my friend pryed it out with a screwdriver (tip was covered with a towel). But I have no clue how to hook up my amp to the head unit. Here's a pic of what they look like. What do I do? Thanks!
Since you are using this to drive a sub, you are going to tap into the rear deck speaker wires and run those to the correct "HIGH LEVEL" inputs. For you remote turn on wire, you need to find the power wire on the back of the radio that is only on when the ignition is turned to the accessory position. There should be 2 power wires in the radio harness. One of them will always have 12v, and the other is switched with the ignition key. Your main power wire for your amp should be run from the battery, and find a ground location that allows you to use the shortest amount of wire possible.
Good luck!

You don't need a line out convertor. Your amp accepts high level input. To get the remote wire, like was said above, tap into the cig lighter (or any switched wire for that matter) and run it back. Then, you can tap in at the HU or at the closest speakers to the amp's location (I'll assume for a minute you're putting the amp in the trunk). Splice into those and run them to the amp. Crimp on or solder, on some connectors (both female) and hook them up to thw amp.
